Compaq Ipaq h1910
Nokia 8390 Cell phone
ISP is through college dial up number

I am trying to connect my ipaq to the internet through my ISP using the infrared port of my cell phone. I set up a new connection for this using the DNS specified by my ISP. This was the only setting I changed from default. When I try to connect, my pocket pc will dial the ISP's number on my cell phone and attempts to connect for 10 or so sec, then returns and error message that there was no answer at the phone number dialed. When my ISP is dialed the phone begins making all the normal pops and squeeks, but then changes to a slowly varying periodic beeping. I have called everyone I could think of about this, everyone says there device is set up correctly and they are not sure why it is not working. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Have you inserted any extra dialing strings?

You may have to insert something...

Here in Norway we usually insert "+CBST=71,0,1" This enables the V.110 protocoll...

Hello, where do you insert these strings and how did you obtain them please?

what cell carrier do you use? some will not alllow use of CSD dial up connections; only GPRS to their network. This is the case with AT&T mMode GSM/GPRS service in US. Other carriers like T-Moble or Cingular have different policies.
