Well, the title pretty much explains this question:

Can I hook a Siemens/AT&T SX56 up to my laptop in order to use the SX56 as a modem for my laptop? Ideally, of course, this would be done using a USB sync/charge cable using reverse-passthrough, but that would probably be too easy. Whether or not it is done using GSM or CDMA is not of all that much importnace, but obviously I would prefer to use GSM, if possible.

This feature alone would break my conundrum and just go out and get one, really.

Not absolutely sure but I remember reading that the XDA at least, cannot be used as a standalone modem.

The official answer is "no" at present but this may well be implemented in a future ROM update (see http://www.myxda.com/web/template/FAQ.vm answers number 124 and 145).

However, the clever people at XDA Developers seem to have found a way to do precisely this: see http://xda-developers.com/modem/ ... I haven't tried it, and they're pretty clear that you do this at your own risk.

I'd be interested to hear how you get on, if you do try the XDA Developers work-around.
