Does anyone have any additional info on the new models that are supposedly due this quarter...the X3 (thin and light) and X7 (wireless)? Specifically, when will they be announced, and when will they be available?

CES is next week. There could be an announcement there since Dell does have a booth at the show, but don't count on it. I would say this spring would be the most likely time for new product roll-outs.

I still love my 1910 over the Dell :D I have gotten more head turns with my 1910 than any PDA I have owned before!
Sometimes size DOES matter

How much advertising does Dell do on CNET?
Right.
Of course, there's no mention of the iPAQ 1910 or V35, both of which are equally as signficant as the Axim.

In terms of specs, the $299 Axim bests the V35 and 1910 with 64MB of usable RAM, 48MB NOR FlashROM and a compact flash slot. I've seen HP and ViewSonic ads on CNET too. I am not saying it is better than the 1910/V35, but it sure is a heck of a lot of bang for the buck.

Why did CNET name the Sony T615c as best "bargain"? It was discontinued months ago. You can't buy them anywhere now. The SJ20 would be my choice...or SL10 perhaps. Even the Axim 300mhz makes a better bargain. :?

IMO, the X5 is more of a comparison to the 3800 series from Compaq. Now when Dell releases something with a smaller footprint than the X5, then it can be compaired to the 1910.
HP will then have some serious issues to deal with esp if Dell comes in lower than the current $299 for the 1910.

How much advertising does Dell do on CNET?
Apparently not as much as Palm, since I had a huge Tungsten ad down the right-hand side of the Dell Axim review. :D

I agree. The comparison between the Dell Axim X5 and the HP iPAQ 1910 only makes sense when you are comparing price. Sure, the HP iPAQ 1910 is smaller, but where are you going to fit the CF slot? If HP had included a CF slot, more memory, and a cradle, I would have gone with that, even if it was an extra $100. 8O
All in all, I can't argue with the form factor for the HP iPAQ 1910. For me though, I'm going with the Dell. I'm a bang-for-the-buck kinda guy. Plus I actually like the way the Dell feels in my hand. 8)

The 1910 is certainly an excellent size, if that is your main concern then I think that it's the way to go. I don't know if I'd buy a Dell though, just seems like they get all this attention when they join the game late. Of course they did a good job, all they had to do was copy the E200 and fix the issues and they're done.
Can anyone give me some Dell specific innovations?

Good choice by CNET. I think these Axims are far and away the most significant PDA development of the year.
Not innovative? What would you think of it if Ford came out with a new minivan that did everything the Dodge Caravan did and sold for 1/3 less? Forget innovation. I would take the cash.

What's the deal with putting down X5's. What is the great inovation that the 1910 has. The smaller footprint, I think Palm has been there. Otherwise, you spent an additional $100 for less processor and less expansion capabilities. Sounds like a bad case of PPC envy to me :).

Just a small correction, the 300 MHz Axim is cheaper and is almost the same (the only thing you have to give up is 32MB of RAM and some ROM.)

Price, without cutting functionality. No one else has even attempted it.

That's what I liked about the Axim, the way it feels in my hand. I tried one the other day at a dell kiosk. Now, if I'd just been patient and not bought that e330.

I would not put down the Axim because it's a great machine, but I do not envy Axim owners. If my main concern wasn't portability, there would be no reason to have my h1910. It's so nice and small and fits perfectly in my hand. I am a first time PPC user (from Visor Deluxe) so I don't need any more power or features because I wouldn't know what to do with them even if I did have them. I just can't believe I have such a small device with a color screen this good :).

Yes, the Dell Axim X5 pulled it all together for me.
64k color display, 400mhz xscale, 64meg Ram,
CF and SD slots.
This is my third PPC and by far the best combination
of features. The size is slightly smaller than my
iPAQ 3100 with Silver Slider CF adapter.
The best feature of all THE PRICE ! Way to go DELL.
After reading all the negative comments on Dell's service/sales/support, I don't see how they could have won the award.

I have had the absolute best service and support from Dell over the years. They are constantly #1 in the big surveys done by the old PC magazines, most of which are now gone.

My guess is that it seriously depends on WHICH customer service rep you get.

Actually I didn't put the Axim down at all, try re-reading what I wrote. Nor did I say that the 1910 was innovative, what I said was that it is "an excellent size".
So the main thing about the Axim is the price then? That's fine and totally valid. Are we talking Hyundai vs BMW cheap though or what?
I will say this, right now I have PPC envy of anyone that has a PPC because I don't!

I want to say that you can definately see who of the thoughts readers are anti-everything execpt Ipaq. Let's not be so negative here folks. I haven't seen one other brand mentioned except the Ipaq. I guess that it might be offensive to some that Dell was chosen over the Ipaq.
Enough said; I think that the Dell was an excellent choice! I have a Toshiba E-740 and I would love to own a Dell. :D
