Wow, talk about timing! We kick off the New Year with over $2000 US in prizes, and our freakin' server takes a nose dive. Sorry about the false start there people! Thanks for putting this together. Any hints as to the schedule for the giveaways? Will they all be like these were without timing being a real issue? Regardless of how you do it Free Stuff=COOL :D Thanks for all you guys at PPC Thoughts do!
Happy new year from all of us at shoes for industry. Keep up the good work - sorry about your server crash

Happy New Year Jason, don't worry about it Jason, I don't think any server can handle the amount of hits you took.

I was just joking in the other thread about taking out your DNS so only I can win the contests :)

Happy New Year everyone!
Wow, what a crazy day. The previous post for ListPro Professional is already around 100 posts!
Jason, i really hope the site doesnt get taken down for exceeding traffic limits, and I hope your server can take the pressure.
Later guys, and good luck!

My wife is telling me I have to go to bed now, so I'll see you all later... ;-)
(the contest items will come up very often over the next 18 hours, but once you've seen a new item, there won't be another one for a while, so don't kill the server by hitting refresh 30 times a minute)

... Any hints as to the schedule for the giveaways? ...
Well, there's been talk in the forums lately about there being twenty-four "missing posts." I was going to guess there would be one give-away an hour for the whole day, but the ListPro and eWallet Pro give-aways were posted only a few minutes apart. (Though that may have been a side effect of the untimely server blip.)

LOL. I was hitting refresh 120 times a minute, with a special kind of VB program I made which does that. Errr, heh, just kidding, of course. No, really :D
Im glad to know that there are random contest giveouts this entire day, and im anxious to get in on them!

Happy New Year to you all. Now, with Jason the key to our server is in bed also, so let's hope we're not in for too bumpy a ride. :)

my wife saw my detemination when I ran for the laptop as soon as we got home, so she has been asleep for an hour already
I wanted to take this time to say thanks for a great site! This has by far become my favorite site over the past year, and I look forward to spending 2003 here as well!

You should offer combat insurance. While you were crashing the wife was watching the New Year's Ball come down in Times Square and was screaming at me to get my tail downstairs to give her a kiss for the new year. I hung in there waiting for you to come back up to register my reply. It took some smooth talking so I'm sleeping inside the house tonight. Whew! This is rough!

Jason,
Keep up the good work. It takes a lot of work to keep a site up like this. Especialy with so many hits.

I hate to be overly critical, but this was so obvious. I mean, you spend weeks hinting this up, you up the post count to 25, some of the contests require you to be the first few posters, you won't tell anyone specifics about time, and then you're surprised when people refresh too often. :| If nothing else, you should have told people to refresh the mobile version to cut the load dramatically.
Like I said, I don't want to sound too critical... you're trying to do something really nice here.

To some extent, yes, but even I didn't expect it to be this popular. I think Jason is saying check the site every 15-20 minutes, maybe every few minutes, but don't sit there hitting reload. :D

Well, what I'm trying to say is no one is going to listen when it gets close to them :15, :30, :45, :00 marks. It was said a little while ago the site gets 27,000 visitors a day or somewhere around there... promise them 27,000 a reason to visit frequently, more than double the displayed news, and you've got a recipe for server overload.
I just hope you guys aren't stuck paying extra for this bandwidth and instead can maybe get a little cash back from advertisement impressions.
Jonathon Watkins

My guess is that Jason is going to show the advertisers the logs for today as a typical day's traffic. "I kid, I kid". It should certainly help flush out those lurkers anyway. :new-alien:
