I am trying to connect my iPAQ with my Garmin eTrex Venture.

The configuration is as follows:

iPAQ - Compaq serial/USB sync cable - null modem adaptor - gender changer - Garmin serial cable - eTrex

I'm trying out Mapopolis with local maps. The Garmin has the latest flash as has the iPAQ.

Data interface format on the Garmin set to NMEA In/NMEA Out at 4800 baud.

The problem:
The problem is that once I hook up the iPAQ the signal coming in over the serial cable kicks off Pocket Outlook and the clock symbol pops up. The system appears hung until the serial sync cable is disconnected.

Questions:
1. Has anyone else seen this problem and is there a way around it?
2. What com port should I be using to receive the GPS input?
3. Am I overlooking something simple??

Thanks in advance
Adrian.

I would suggest you post this over at

www.gpspassion.com

where there are a lot of experts on this type of thing. It's a great site for GPS issues.

Found the answer over, and it was something simple  . Had to disable the Stowaway drivers (i.e., unclick both "Enable keyboard" and "Hotdock".

Now it works just fine.

By the way I found the answer at PocketPCPassion (at http://www.pocketpcpassion.com/ubb/Forum7/HTML/000629.html) in case anyone is having similar problems.

Cheers,
Adrian.
