i'm having problems installing windows media player 8 onto my brother's ipaq 1910. every time it tries to install wmp onto the handheld, i get a "device could not be found" error message. funny, since activesync sees the ipaq and other programs i tried to installed has work (pocket plus, withmp3, and diamond mine to name a few). i've even tried to do a soft reset before installation and that didn't work. i tried using 2 different sync cables, the hp cradle, at full battery charge, and 30 megs of system memory to no luck. i was wondering if anyone else who's had to install wmp8 ever had this problem. any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. thought that i should add that i installed wmp8 onto my ipaq 1910 without any problems.

Are you installing from the same PC onto 2 different iPaqs? (that is, you already installed the app on your 1910, are you now attempting to install onto your brothers from the same host computer?).
If so, try this:
sync up your brother's iPaq, go into ActiveSync (on the desktop), and go into the install/remove software. If WMP is on the list (whether it's checked or not), click on it (to highlight it), then check the little box at the bottom of the dialog to remove it from the ipaq AND desktop computer ( you'll get a pop-up warning, just click okay).
After it's removed from both, check your brother's iPaq, and use the iPaq's "remove programs", and it WMP shows up, remove it.
Finally, rerun the original WMP setup file, the one that you either got from the CD or downloaded (I installed the one from the CD, myself, which works fine).
After it goes thru the install onto your desktop, it should then (if your brother's iPaq is still connected) install onto the ipaq.
I ran into a similar problem with a different MSFT app (Pac-man) when the first install was onto my Viewsonic V35, which I broke, and exchanged for the 1910 - it then wouldn't install properly on my 1910 until I did the above procedure.
Not sure if it's the same exact problem, but i had a similar message about being able to locate the device, so maybe it'll work.

Thanks for the tips Kirk. I wished I saw your tips earlier, because my brother decided to return the iPAQ and pick up a Tungsten T instead.
I was installing WMP from his computer with no luck, not my computer. I was trying everything I could think of and finally decided to call HP support. Talk about getting a tech who didn't know what he was talking about and just pulling stuff out of you know where. He told me that they've been getting tons of problems with WMP and the 1910. And he goes on to tell me that they're telling everyone to go download WMP 7.1 and that fixes the problem. Not being an expert PPC user (yet  ), I took his advice and thought it would solve the problem. Turns out that WMP 7.1 isn't even compatible with PPC 2002. My brother was growing impatient with this (so was I) and we decided to go and see if we could exchange it for another one. They didn't have one, but I got the manager to give us the same discount he received on his iPAQ for another PDA. The manager gave in and my brother went for the Tungsten ($360 for that PDA is a steal....although I know this is a strictly PPC site).
Once again, thanks for the pointers. I know where I'll be turning to if I have a problem in the future. :)
