<div class='os_post_top_link'><a href='http://www.resco-net.com/explorer.asp' target='_blank'>http://www.resco-net.com/explorer.asp</a><br /><br /></div>I downloaded Resco Explorer this morning thinking I might switch to it. Then John sends us this email that it is 20% off this month. Turns out I have downloaded a brand new version with tons of new features. Cool! 8) <br /><br /><img src="http://www.pocketpcthoughts.com/images/hansberry/2002/20021224-resco.gif" /><br /><br />Features include:<br />• Integrated 40 bit (RC) or 56 bit (DES) encryption. An encryption option is also added to Explorer as a shell extension on your Windows desktop so you can encrypt/decrypt files you transfer from your Pocket PC. You can purchase a stronger 128 bit module if you need that level of security.<br />• Zip file support, including passwords and comments.<br />• Built in JPG/GIF/BMP/PNG viewer. You can also view files in TXT, BIN or HEX format.<br />• Network browser<br />• Registry editor<br /><br />Wow! Not too much left eh? But wait! That's not all. Order today using E8X51E as the order code and get 20% off. That makes it $15.96 instead of $19.99 for the month of December. It supports all processors and Pocket PC and Pocket PC 2002 devices. <a href="http://www.handango.com/PlatformProductDetail.jsp?siteId=311&platformId=2&productType=2&catalog=0§ionId=0&productId=11118">Click here to purchase</a> <i>affiliate link</i>.

"Integrated 40 bit (RC) or 56 bit (DES) encryption. An encryption option is also added to Explorer as a shell extension on your Windows desktop so you can encrypt/decrypt files you transfer from your Pocket PC."
Does this support individual document encryption, or folder based encryption? :? I am looking for a utility that will allow me to individually encrypt files or folders. :)

That XP style bar looks like Pelmar's Wisbar (http://www.pelmarinc.com/) with the Full eXPerience Skin Pack (http://www.pelmarinc.com/cgi-bin/ikonboard.cgi?act=ST;f=5;t=353).
BTW Resco Explorer 2003 is great. It even has registry import/export.

It supports individual file encryption only. You can select a folder and encrypt it, but all that does is encrypt all the individual files within the folder seperately, it won't combine them into one file. You can however, likewise decrypt all those files in the directory at once. It works pretty well.

Can I play my media files (MP3, WMA, etc.) stored from my desktop?

True - but you can zip up a folder first, then encrypt the zip file. :)

I agree Resco just keeps on improving their software. They have managed to integrate Resco Zipper into Resco Explorer with 2003 (that's 1 less app that I have to install) and add a full featured registry editor as well. Now all they need to do is integrate Resco Picture Viewer and you will have 1 app with a suite of powerful/full-featured applets built-in. :D

Is the 2003 edition free to existing users (Doubt it.) or do we at least get a discount?

If you are an existing user you should have gotten an e-mail message with a code that you could use to get a 50% discount off the price. If you purchased Resco Explorer after Dec. 18, 2001, the upgrade is free and you should have gotten an e-mail from Resco if you qualify for a free upgrade. :)
Can someone using Resco Explorer 2003 tell me how the Network Browser works? Does it function much like the desktop "Network Neighborhood" or "Network Places" or does it only map network drives like PE Net Explorer and Netrunner?

I use Resco Explorer's Network browser to view shared folders. It works pretty much like Network places on the XP desktop box.

You must map network shares before using. Actually everything works that way. It is the only way the network connections are supported. However comma Resco has a very nice interface for creating those mappings. You press the map (network) icon and a screen pops up that will show you all the PCs available on your network. Each can be expanded to show all the shares available on each PC. Once you establish a share, it will always appear under a My Network entry in the main Explorer window. If you are not connected, tapping that share just does nothing. If you are connected it will, of course, open that share and give you access to the files/folders in it. Yes you can open files, such as mp3s, videos, docs, whatever has an associated app on the PPC.
If you like the NETWORK folder in the middle of explorer you can do that as well. If you opt for the File Folder NETWORK you will see it in the built in explorer as well as Rosco's, if you opt for the My Network item, it only appears in Resco. (If you have Resco, why would you use the built in one, though? ;))

Hello,
I had a previous thread about this App. My question was about the encryption.... The Resco site says nothing about an aditional charge for strong encryption. The site refers to Microsoft for the high-encryption pack, however that is intended for PPC 2000 NOT PPC 2002. Anyone know the deal? I have sent an email to Resco, but so far no reply about the subject.
Here is the info from Resco...
File Encryption is one of the most powerful features of Explorer 2003. You can use the Base Cryptographic Provider with RC2 (40bit) or DES (56bit) algorithms. Power users can install an Enhanced Provider (click here to read more) with stronger algorithms such as RC2-128, DES-56, 3DES TWO KEY-112, 3DES-168. We did our best to make the en/decryption process familiar looking and easy to use. Additionally, you can also install a Windows 95/98/NT/2000 shell extension to use the encryption/decryption process on desktop PCs.

When I first got my home setup for WiFi, NetRunner was pretty invaluable, but it didn't take long for Resco to add the same support into their File Explorer (they've been supporting this well before their 2003 version). IMO, this is by far the best file explorer available. You certainly won't have any need for Netrunner once you use Resco File Explorer.
I'm not sure I'll want to upgrade to 2003 myself as the new additions for 2003 compared to previous versions (registry editor, zip support, encryption) are not features I feel I need right now, but an outstanding package nonetheless.

That link is for SSL for Pocket PC 2000 devices only, and the Toshiba e740 if you don't have EUU3 on it. All other Pocket PC 2002 devices already have built in encryption at 128bit for SSL. Yet my 128bit SSL iPAQ 3900 only has 40 and 56bit encryption available. Hmmm.. an email is in order after the holidays. :)

Well, I too have EUU3 on my Ipaq 3835 and I only have 40 bit encryption. Anyone else with Euu3 want to check what encryption options they have? I have a funny feeling there is something going on here either with Resco Explorer or EUU3, since the higher encryption option are not available...
Anyone with any ideas? I still haven't heard a word from Resco, prehaps another email is in order....

My iPAQ 3900 definitely has 128bit encryption, so does your 3800, with or without EUU3. Only the tosh e740 needs EUU3 to get 128bit. Yet Resco File Explorer still shows 40/56 bit. I sent them an email last night. Lets give them time to get back from the holidays to answer their mails.

I done figured it out...
You have to download and install the pocketpc2002 SDK.
http://www.microsoft.com/mobile/developer/downloads/ppcsdk2002.asp
After you install it go to:
C:\windows ce tools\wce300\Pocket PC 2002\support\EnhancedCrypto
and isntall the cab file on your ppc
Viola!

Viola!
Thanks for your effort Tanoanian.
However, downloading a 68MB file for a 400MB installer to find and install a single CAB that RESCO should be distributing anyway is not my idea of a fix.
Not to take away from the work you did - but Resco should get this fixed ONCE AND FOR ALL! I have been farting around with this since December and not using encryption at all. 56bit encryption can be hacked in a few hours with my HP-17BII calculator (ok, small exaggeration there) so for now, I am not using Resco for encryption.
