What type of speed do you all get with 802.11b on your PPC's??

I have a Dell Axim Advanced and a Netgear MA701 CF card. I have a 1.5 Mbps cable modem but I can't seem to get any faster than about 33 - 35 KBps (264 to 280 kbps) even though I get an 11 Mbps link to my wireless access point. Any thoughts?? For now, I do not have WEP enabled and there seems to be little to no difference in speed between short and long preamble mode. Any tweaks?? BTW, is it just me or is PIE really slow???

Thanks!

One problem - it is a single-threaded socket. Another problem, PIE is just slow.

Hmm... if you have time, could you explain...

Jonno, do you mean that PIE only executes HTTP requests serially, instead of in parallel? For the latter, you'd have a multithreaded engine with multiple sockets, not just one. A multithreaded engine with one streaming (e.g., TCP) socket wouldn't have multiple simultaneous readers, unless I'm not understanding what you're saying.

In any case, this shouldn't affect the raw speed of downloading one file... I'd buy the PIE being too slow bit more. beezer, maybe you should try NetFront and see if that's faster. I've not had a reason to do benchmarks, so I don't have more data.

I did a local speed test over a 1.5Mbps cable modem line using a Symbol CF card on my Dell Axim -- the result was 699 kbps.

What settings are you using?

Remember that WiFi is half-duplex, 11Mbps is really 5.5 Mbps, so right away you may lead to some dissappointment. But for the most part, PIE is slow.

In addition, 11Mbps is best case scenario. If you are not real close to the access point then the speed drops considerably.

I've done some speed tests which you can find here:

699kb really suprises me.... since I don't even get those kind of transfer speeds from my sd card to my ram...

I am getting 816kbps on my setup but that is only within 200 feet or so of my pc. I am on cable. My pc gets 1.2mbps so im quite impressed. BTW these are averages..I ran each test 5 times using 2wire.com
