I've had two iPAQ H5455's and they both have the same problem (See below) so it's my assumption that they all will have this problem.

I use the "fingerprint and 4-Digital PIN" to access my iPAQ. After loading in my apps and data I make a backup using Compaq Backup. The data is backed up to the iPAQ file store memory (non-volatile). The system then needs to be reset (Hard Reset) due to a problem, lockup, or whatever. After restoring the data from the backup that was made you can no longer get into the iPAQ because the fingerprint scanner driver has an error - AND - it won't let you use your 4-digit PIN since it doesn't get further than the driver error. You can do a warm reset over and over again and you'll keep getting the error. You're only option is to start from scratch (HARD RESET, Reload data from PC) which means that if this happens when you're on the road - you're in trouble!

- You use Compaq Backup to make a backup of your iPAQ to the iPAQ file store
- After resetting your iPAQ (Hard Reset) you're data is gone
- You use Compaq Backup now to RESTORE your iPAQ.
- Upon warm reset you no longer can get into your data since the fingerprint ID system pops up with a driver error.

Have you called HP tech support? Were they able to duplicate the problem??? and if so, what was their response?

Unfortunately I have had to restore three times from backup. I think there is a conflict with the Margi Presenter-To-Go drivers that locks up the system and forces you to do a hard reset.

However with each restore that i have done my fingerprint id has worked without a problem. I have restored from both the filestore and an SD memory card.

The problem I had with the restore was on two different H5455's. Each time the restore was done from the filestore.

When you restored from your backup what was your password selection? Just fingerprint?

I have had to do a restore on two separate occasions (one was replacing the unit), and both times, things went off without a hitch. My settings are "Fingerprint or Password." Both times, the restore completed, and upon soft reset, I was prompted for my fingerprint/password. I swiped my finger and was in without issue.

By the way, one restore was from the iPAQ file store, and the other was from a SD Card, so that rules that out as well. It sounds like something in your "backed up" image was faulty. Have you reinstalled from scratch, and tried again? Try it WITHOUT installing your 3rd-party programs to see if it's one of them that's causing your problem.
