Does anyone have any recomendations for a good video news site to stream from throught the day. I'm looking for something that I can stream over my iPAQ using WMP. The 2 min MSNBC clips don't cut it, I'm looking for something more like BBC or CNN style (I used to watch BBC, but apparently they have switched to real player streams).

You can get the RealOne player for your PocketPC. There is also good content (not streaming) available in the digital video package from Mazingo.

I have Real One player, it is junk, does not work at all. I also have Mazingo DVP, however, this is the same short clips. I'm looking for something that I can watch/listen to throughout the day without having to keeping tapping on the next link every few minutes.

If you have access to a WiFi network, consider getting Snapstream have your computer stream the video for channels you want.

You need a TV tuner card for that right? I'm actually connect via passthrough to my PC at work. I'm on a LAN.

Yes, needs a TV-tuner. You can stream from your home PC to work assuming you have a broadband connection.

You can install PacketVideo Player on your PPC and stream Ananova. you even get the advantage of that cool little digital talking head. Make sure you use the Mobile link, though, as they resize it for your screen.

This may be what I'm looking for, however, when I try to download it I get a 'Page Does Not Exist' error.

try http://pda.ananova.com/ and there should be a link from there to the Packet Video plug-in. They'll give you a choice of installing a stand-alone player or a PIE plug-in.

Hmm, I don't see any links on their site to anything apart from there content. When I click on video and try to play it, it asks if I have Packet Video installed, and when I select no I am given a link to the same page that presents me with the above error. Am I simply looking in the wrong place?

I got this from the Ananova site:

"How To Download Packet Video

Please make sure that your system meets the following minimum requirements before you install PVPlayer:

Pocket PC WinCE 3.0 device
Digital wireless data-capable phone that can receive data at 28.8kbps
Data cable to connect the cell phone to the Pocket PC
Internet Service Provider

Download the PVPlayer to your PC (not your PDA) from the PacketVideo Web site:-
www.packetvideo.com/update/download.asp

Connect your Pocket PC to your PC and activate the ActiveSync program. Follow your PDA device manufacturer's instructions for using ActiveSync to download programs.

To install the Packet Video Player, Locate the "Setup.exe" file that you just downloaded. Double click on it to launch the installer and follow the steps. "

Hope this solves your problem!

I saw that info myself. However, try to click the link that you provided, it takes you to the website and yields a 'You have reached a page that does not exist' error. Thanks anyway though.

oops! My mistake! They might be updating the links or something. I would suggest that you keep an eye on their page, as it really is cool to see that little Ananova talking head on your PPC.

I'll keep checking, thanks. As of this morning it was still not working yet.

You can watch CSPAN in WMP and listen to NPR. I havn't been able to find any good streaming video links... and the 2 damn Microsoft pages I found havn't been updated in god knows how long.

Thanks for the links, I'll check them out later. I emailed the support at packet video asking them about the broken link but have yet to receive a response.

Update: I just received the following response from packetvideo concerning the broken url:

Thank you for your interest in PacketVideo, the world leader in multimedia for mobile devices. pvPlayer for Pocket PC is no longer available for download from this site. Please contact your mobile operator or device manufacturer and ask them to offer PacketVideo mobilemedia services

Does this mean the service is no longer available?? Why would they do this??

I guess they just sent out a whole batch of these form letters, since I just got the same one today. I guess they're trying to get the streamers to host the files for download.

Hmm . . . do you know of anywhere else that this can be downloaded from? Are any of the streamers doing this yet??
