I tried to change the registry Rotate value under hkey local machine -> drivers -> display -> m120 to = 1 instead of 0(this should make the screen go into landscape mode after a hard reset.) It didn't work. It hard reset, deleted all my stuff(which is normal), but it didn't come up in landscape and the registry went back to rotate = 0  . Any one know what is up with that or how to fix it? Thanks.

My Jornada 548 has the ability out of the box to use the "rotate" function on the OS. I'm not sure about the axim. One thing is definite: you would only do a soft reset after changing the value, not a hard reset...

when you hard rest that sets everything back to factory settings. why did you do a hard reset. If this reg hack really works as you say, you should have done a SOFT reset.

Because I'm a pocket pc bonehead and the directions I found on the web said to do a Hard Reset.

not sure what you meaning of bonehead is, but if it's my what Im thinking, then that means you shouldn't be using reg hacks...they are dangerous if done wrong...... just a thought, nothing personal :)

I'm not a technophobic nit wit, just lazy and venting. I figured a hard reset was a hard reset without rewriting the registry. BTW there is an interesting and useful tool called a dictionary. I bet you could find bonehead in it  . I also bet that you could use an online dictionary http://www.dictionary.com/ no more searching the house for that antiquated information database known as websters. Another day another lesson learned. Guess what! I also learned that the hack doesn't work hard or soft reset. So rack 2 up for me. Huuuaaaah. I'm on a roll.

How do you edit the registry on PPC2k?

Registry editor.
Not included with standard PPC OS.
Should be able to find one on handango, not sure if they make a free version.
EDIT:
Just found a freeware Reg editor. Just use it and any hacks you may find at your OWN risk...

If you are already on Philippe Marejus his page, please be smart and use HIS registry hacks as well. They can be found on http://www.phm.lu/PocketPC/RegTweaks/ . They are extremely well-documented, and all work.
A small warning on rotating your screen: do not rotate your screen with a password protection enabled Basically, your bottom numbers fall of the number-pad, so you can't reach them. Very nasty when you have a 0 in your password. You will be forced to hard-reset :(
