I have what is probably a dumb question, but I'm new to ppc. I set the backlight to about 1/3 brightness on my 3955, but when I turn it off and then turn it back on the backlight is off. Is this the way it works or should it stay at that setting? I have it set to go off if inactive for 1 minute and to come on if the screen is tapped. This is driving me nuts. Thanks for your responses.

Mine comes back on to the setting it was left at. I think it should always do that. Do you have it set to auto? If so perhaps it does not think the light should be on or you have a bad sensor. Perhaps another program is turning it off. Not sure what else it might be.

It should come back to the setting you last had. However, on the 3800 series at least, there was a bug that sounded like this. If you had your iPAQ off for a "long time" (whatever that meant), the backlight would occasionally be completely off when you turned the iPAQ back on.

Does anyone have that bug in the 3900 series, or was it fixed? If it's still around, maybe you have it. If you do have it, turning the iPAQ off and on again usually works (sometimes it works better if you cover the Auto sensor with a finger when you turn the iPAQ on).

I have no such bug on my 3955. This may be a dumb question, but you're not holding the button down and accidentally turning the backlight off, are you? If this continues to happen, I'd call HP and talk to them.

Good luck!
