This week was going so well. My area finally has access to broadband over cable, got it installed on Monday, its works like a dream. I also learned that my X5 was shipped last Friday and would be here on Tuesday ( 12/18 ) :rock on dude!:

I was watching the UPS tracking site and saw it was dropped off at 11:23 ( 12/18 ) and signed for. I guessed my wife had signed for it. Went home for lunch to get it (I only work 2 miles from home) at 11:40. NO DELL

My wife was not there so I called her on her cell phone. She had not been home all morning and she did not sign for a package. If she did not sign for it, WHO DID :?:

I checked with the neighbors to see if any of them had it and none did. I called UPS this morning and they said someone signed for it at my house and that I should call Dell to have them investigate it. I called Dell and right off said they would have me a new X5 in the mail in two days and that they will check into what happened with UPS.

UPS was not very much help at all, they basicly dumped it in my lap. They could net even fax me a copy of the signature of the person who signed for the package to see if recognized it. Anyways, Dell was VERY cool about the whole thing.

I was soooo happy, broadband and a new PPC in the same week...

Damn..... that sucks. Good thing Dell is helping you out.

This is the very reason I had it sent to a work place. Just got mine today, about an hour ago. 4 hour charge is almost as bad as the wait for it to ship...

UPS's behavior is not very surprising. If you ever need to get insurance money from them or FedEx in the future, good luck...

Sorry to hear about the problem. Are you shipping it to your workplace instead now? I always do that myself.

At 5:45am, an item, I waited much of the day for, was loaded on a UPS truck. Their website say's it was loaded for delivery. It is 6:35PM now. Hmm, I've got a busy schedule tomorrow. What time do they haul the trucks in and stop delivering(even during a holiday season). 7pm maybe?

Lately the UPS guys haven't been asking for signatures (in too much of a hurry). If they said that there is a signature, you should ask for a copy of it. My guess is they just left it by the door and someone took it.

Alot of times, they do "DR": Driver release (especially at this time of year). But as far as I know, they won't do it for electronics...

If they get a signature, they will also have the address of the person that signed...

Good luck, and I swear it wasn't me!!!

Here's my list,
Ipaq 3835 (13 months ago), Ipaq 3975 (2 months ago), sanyo 6200 replacement phone (2 weeks ago), t68i (2 months ago), everything for the computer that my lil bro ordered for a total of about $2800 all left on my doorstep. All while myself or my lil bro was home. No knock, no nothing. All delivered by ups. Thank god all the crackheads in the neighborhood know not to enter my yard and thank god for my crackhead eating pitbull  (no he wasn't out there when said packages were delivered)

Don't let UPS off the hook too quickly, because it's their responsibility to prove that an item was correctly delivered. Several months ago I ordered an expensive SD card, which UPS says they delivered. When I tried to get them to pay for the replacement, they barraged me with phone calls and inquiries asking me if I was SURE I hadn't received the item.

Now, whenever I get a delivery from UPS, I must be on some kind of "suspect list," because they won't release ANYTHING without my signature. And, the driver brings it up EVERY time he sees me: "That thing ever show up?" he says...

I hope you don't have my experience. Mine arrived in my home town on 2:15 AM Thanksgiving morn. With the holiday it didn't get sent out for delivery til 6:30 AM Monday 12/2. Should have had it in my hand that night. Nothing. Check UPS tracking site the next morning, some how it was in KS, about 700 miles away  . Keep the faith :rock on dude!:

Check the UPS web site. Mine came to the house, well a sticker came, indicating a signature was required. We had it re-directed to the office. (You can do that, reschedule delivery or have them hold it, all on-line) The receptionist signed for it (as is normal) and her name showed up in the trackng info on-line. It would be intersting if the On-line info says you signed for it. There will be a driver looking for a new line of work.

Showed up at 9:30pm. I ordered some cheese from an NY dairy for the family Xmas gathering. I tend to support small businesses, when I can afford it.

I got my dell on monday and love it. It is much better then my 3835. But heres a story from ups i had this week. My father was expecting a package which contained a very expensive electronic gadget. well he was suppose to get it tuesday. guess what never showed up from ups. well the next morning he went to get the paper at about 600 in the morning. well guess what the package was on a stone about 50-60 feet from the front porch. talk about great service. i am surprised no one took the box.

... unless the shipper tells them it's OK to do so. I hope that wasn't the case here.

I've done that with FedEx in certain cases. Be careful, it's not for everyone :)

In my experience, (I have owned a Mailboxes Etc type business & deal with UPS/Fedex daily at my new job) make them show you the signiture and then make sure it is yours/your wifes. I have seen things like a FedEx driver faking a signiture and boxes being scanned on the truck to show a number on the electronic pad they use only to trick someone in to signing for 9 boxes that shows 10. The later is a pain if you don't count every box because they have your signiture. Keep in mind, UPS/FedEx/Other shippers hire people of the street like anyone else. Some of those people catch on real quick as to what comes in certain boxes and they know how to get rid of it. Most of the cases I have heard about where a driver was stealing, the driver figures his companies insurance pays for it so its "not like they are hurting anyone." Seriously, I heard/saw some harsh things when I owned the shipping business.

I agree. I've had all kinds of problems, balanced with hundreds of successful deliveries as well. The best story is my brother's, though. A friend sent a hugh box of gifts for his kids. But they never showed up. They call UPS to find out what happened and it says "delivered" with a signature. The signature isn't even their name or a neighbour's. Driver is called in and questioned. Says he left the box on their back porch. They don't have a back porch or a front porch. Driver says for sure that he left it on their porch, brother must have torn it down....ugh...

Goods can't be replaced by vendor because friend took delivery from the vendor, so they weren't sent by the vendor directly. UPS tells brother to file charges with the police. He does.

A few months later, driver is busted for passing stolen computers, all Dells and Gateways. Brother is one of the cops involved in the bust. Back porch my *ss.

I also have a FedEx driver who never, ever knocks to deliver. She ignores the ugly stickers I had to post all over the front and back of my house to try to get her to actually leave the delivery --- she loves those hang tags. Turns out that she always figures no one is home because there are never cars in the driveway, because....I ACTUALLY PARK MY CAR IN THE GARAGE. GASP! HORROR!

Every time she does a tag-and-dash, I call the same manager at my local FedEx office and he has to track her down and bring me the letter. They got tired of always having to refund the delivery charges due to this dimwitted FedChick.
