Has any one used a 802.11b Compact Flash card with their Dell Axim? Results? Can anyone suggest a good 802.11b CF card brand? Lowest prices? Thanks :?:

There are quite a few people who have gotten wifi CF cards to work with their Axims. As for brand, that's subjective. Some people like to spend more and get the energy efficient socket/symbol card or spend less and get either a linksys, netgear, dlink etc. Do a search on the boards and you should find some more info.

Here is another user's dell with the Linksys wcf12 CF 802.11 card.

The same card I picked up to use, there are others, but i'm happy with my linksys card so far in my old Ipaq, My axim shipped yesterday... or so says dell's site.... should be here end of this week. (cross fingers)

I use a Netgear card - had no problems installingb and running it. Battery life is ok for me with it in.

I too have the Netgear and it works great.

I have the Netgear MA701 as well. I set up a DLINK 900+ Access Point and the Netgear CF card up (w/o WEP for now) in less than 15 minutes. It works great!

On a side note, when I went to the AP browser in the MA701 software... it immediately saw both my AP and someone else's in my apartment complex... Kinda weird 8O (I'm new to 802.11b) I think I'll enable WEP now!

Linksys WC12 works great.

I had to disable "power save mode" to get it to work.

I am able to check e-mail, surf the web, and activesync - wirelessly.

Using my "real" computer less and less...

I use the Symbol card connecting to a D-Link AP. The signal strength is comparable to my D-Link PC card connected in my laptop from far reaches of the house.

I picked the Symbol card because the antenne sticks out less than the Linksys / D-Link CF cards and because it uses less power. So far I am very pleased with the Symbol.

One problem is that I cannot find any "sniffer" software to use with this card to WarWalk.

I use the Linksys also. For my needs it is great. Price was right, easy to set up and does the trick. In constant web browsing use I estimated the battery life to be a bit more the 2.5 hours. Good luck.

After Finaly being able to play with my Dell today... I setup the WCF12.
Ran into problem... *when* it did connect it was slow as hell...

Reset the excryption, and waited about 15 minutes to make sure the M Browser was synced up with my computers... and Bingo. Worked perfectly ever since. and fast...

Installed all of my software I used on my Ipaq 3635, wirelessly :D
battery constanly on for 2.5+ hours with the WI-Fi card installing software and playing around. batt went down to 37%. MUCH better than the Ipaq fared...

I am very impressed with the Axim so far. Totaly worth the $300, I think the Axim 400mhz compares evenly with the $600 Ipaqs... Screen is very sharp, not as bright as the Ipaq, but much sharper.

My only complaint is the Speaker is not the best... But I'll use the headphones instead of the speaker most of the time.

I just finally got wireless working in my house for my father's laptop as well as mine. 2.4ghz, 802.11b 22mb D-link... now the question is, will the regular CF cards interface, or do I need to locate (if they even make one) a 2.4ghz version?

Ouch! How high was the backlight?? I did about 2.5 hours of moderate to heavy browsing last night with my Axim 400 set to Auto processor, backlight 1 notch above dim, and the MA701 set to powersave mode and when I was done the battery was only down to 60%. :?

Glad you got your Dell and are hooked up wirelessly. I think the sound over headphones is great. Have used my a lot that way and am very impressed. :)

I had my speed set to 400mhz... not auto to get the 37% left.

In my first day in using the Axim, Used it fairly little... no chance too. But the Battery still says 100%. the Ipaq would have been down to 90 by now... easily. And I still left it on 400mhz for today, switched it back to auto though. I had to play with power :D

8) I like my linksys wcf12. It works rather well. Now, if only the building I worked in wasn't built before the advent of cellular and other wireless technologies.... The place blocks signal so well you'd think it was designed to do so.

802.11b is 2.4Ghz so there is no problem there any 802.11b card will be in the right frequency. 802.11a is 5Ghz.

I use the Symbol CF card and it works perfectly, only complaint I had setting it up was that it was too easy!! I almost defeated myself it was so simple.

Here is a link to MS for a PPC Connection Wizard that will transfer your PC settings to your PPC for you. (I found this after I had mine setup) Also, remember Network Names are Case Sensitive

Hope this helps! Cheers!

I found the wireless CF Netgear MA701 for $69 after rebate from CompUSA. No problems with it at all when connecting to my Netgear MR314 which is connected to DSL. You should be OK on the Dell Axim with any 802.11b card......good luck!

I have a netgeat ma701, works great. Also suggest download of vxUtil for Windows CE and vxIPConfig for Windows CE, both free at http://www.cam.com/windowsce.html

I just got my axim, and theres a little problem with my Linksys WCF11 card. The internet works fine, but the card blocks the headphone jack so i can't use headphones... i'm definately not happy about this! :x Any reccomendations?

The Symbol Wireless Networker doesn't block the headphone jack. It is maybe 1/2" higher than the CF slot same width as a standard CF Card. No advice other than that.

I've also purchased the Netgear MA701 802.11b wireless CF card. It works great in my Axim. Very nice for e-mail, but surfing is a pain with pocket IE. I'm thinking of trying one of the alternative browsers out there.
