The software does nothing by itself - instead, it fixes some issues that have been awaited by Pocket PC users but still missing in the official Pocket PC 2002 OS."</i><br /><br />These missing features include:<li> Turning the X into a closer/task switcher instead of Smart Minimize<br /><li> Ability to open multiple Pocket IE windows or switch Pocket IE to full screen<br /><li> Repeating alarms<br /><li> Today screen plugin that shows memory, brightness, and battery status, and can act as a launch panel. None of these are revolutionary, but they're nicely integrated, and most importantly, small and unintrusive (the download is just 144k!). I just installed it onto my 3870, and the integration is absolutely superb. The only minor bug I came across so far was that the clock-tap (to show the date and pending appointments) is shifted slightly - you have to tap in the empty space between the clock and the X; and the iPaq's auto-brightness doesn't always update on the Today screen. I'm sure these will be resolved shortly, and it's an extremely minor blemish on what's otherwise a fabulous product.<br /><br />Click above to get more information and to download a trial and/or purchase a copy. <i>(affiliate link)</i>

Wow.....while I haven't yet installed this (and therefore can't specifically comment on the program), I do plan to buy it. It does seem to take care of a number of different issues in one small program. I could purchase and install three or four different applications to take care of all the issues, or just one  And its perfect timing for myself as well, as I *just* hard reset my iPaq 3835 (to put on ROM 1.20 and EUU3) and am slowly rebuilding it software wise.....thankfully, I hadn't put on any individual software that addressed these issues yet :D

Since Jason will likely be reading this :D : I would pay $30 or more for the ability to open two windows not just in IE, but in Pocket Word and Inbox as well.

For example, I was doing e-mail in the car today while stuck in traffic on my way to work (relax, my wife was driving :) ) and kept having to move between two e-mails for various copy/paste tasks. The mail I was working on got saved to Drafts when I closed it, and the other mail was about 50 mails down in my Inbox, so there was much scrolling and changing of drop-down items as I closed and opened the two mails.

Another example: yesterday I had a very large Word document (took 20 seconds to open on my iPAQ each time) that I was using along with a smaller doc for note-taking. Would have been really nice to open the big one once and just switch windows, rather than closing the open doc each time I had to view the other one.

In any case, I'll be trying Spb Pocket Plus shortly! But the IE functionality won't be nearly as useful as it would be for other programs...

After messing with Gigabar, WisBar and half a dozen other task switchers, I always go back to the simplicity of Pocket Nav. For the first time, I may have found a replacement in Pocket Plus. Very tight integration. :way to go:

The problem I always had with other task switchers was the obliteration of the notification area. This looks like it could be the answer to all that I wanted.

I agree JonnoB, it was no fun shutting down the task switcher just to close my wireless or vpn connection. It just didn't feel right, i felt so violated  anyhow I'm going to give this software a spin and see how it works.

I use WisBar, and enjoy its integration with Snoopsoft Dashboard. I simply won't run a PPC without Dashboard. I like seeing everything on the front screen, and seeing ALL of my meetings and to-dos on my Today Screen.

I used Gigabar for a while, but switched to WisBar when changing its themes were integrated into Dashboard and Gigabar was not.

I'm interested to know what the compulsion might be to switch... Comments?

I use the tAgenda today screen plug-in to view these items. Now that this task switcher is available, I might have a very useful Today screen and true task bar.

Sounds good. What I'd really like to see integrated into an PIE enhancement utility (besides multiple windows) is a "Find (on this page)" feature like one has in IE. Some of the PIE enhancement utilties do allow proper copying and pasting from PIE (another good feature that would be nice in a product like this), but none seem to offer a "Find (on this page)" function. Is it because such a feature is already available in PIE in the Pocket PC 2002 OS (I'm still running Pocket PC 2000)?

I am not a Dashboard user, but I used to have both that and WisBar on my machine. It was nicely integrated.

Once PPC 2002 came out though, WisBar hid too many Start bar items, so I reverted to Pocket Nav which sat quitely in the corner not messing anything up.

well i used the wisbar/dashboard combination for a long time but finally i droped both of them since many times they did slow down my ppc a lot.
I finally managed to live without an extra task manager on my 3850 but only the built in.

For me now to use such tools they have to be extremely reliable and not resource haungry, I will try this proggie from spb once i have my Pocket PC, looks like a cool tool.

Dashboard and WisBar is the killer app for me.

The downside? I turn on PPC, get all the info I need in one glance, and then turn off. No time/reason to keep PPC and play with all the apps/games/media files.

So does this software actually redraw the (X) button? does it run in the background? or does it acutally alter the OS to make these changes? Thing running in the background always have a tendency to lock up or mess with other things.
I know multiie is always running in the background to add it's stuff to PIE, plus your task manager (which does not function when a program is locked up thus defeating the purpuse of a task manager). I need a task manager that will still function while the os is functioning and not stop working when inbox locks...

Well, for what it's worth, I've tried about 6 different task managers. This is the most minimal of all of them. Leaves the "X" icon alone. Works with all my apps so far, but I'll probably be testing it for another couple days.

This is by far the most useful utility developed. My only problem is that the next appoint pop-up is not working at all.

As in, when you tap on the time you should receive a pop-up bubble with the full time and date, and your next appointment. This function is apparently blocked/not working.

It's rare you see PocketGear link instead of Handango

Two things about PG I like better than H:
1). For order recall/redownload purposes, they really tie your orders to your account so you just log in and see all your purchases on one list for redownloads or upgrading to the latest versions. I found it ridiculous that H couldn't do this...

2). No TX sales tax on the software purchases :)

I thought I knew a *lot* about PocketPC's, yet I never knew this "time pop-up" feature existed......guess I don't know as much as I thought

However, in examining this newly discovered PPC 2002 feature (which does work for me, as I have not installed this software yet), I don't quite see how useful it is anyway. I mean, it tells me the date (which is on my Today page without any tapping) and it tells me my next appointment (which, also, is on my today screen without any tapping....assuming its the same day as my next appointment). So why do a lot of you use this pop-up anyway? True, if you removed Date and Calendar from your today screen listings, then this becomes more valuable, but I'm not sure that's what all of you have done.....there must be another benefit?? (sorry, don't mean to take the thread OT.....just wanting to learn even more about my PPC :) )

While not very useful from the today page in does tend to come in handy if you need to check on this while reading email, surfing the net, or doing anything other than looking at your today page. ;)

FWIW, it the pop-up also contains a battery meter (albeit a very crappy one).

Has anyone else experienced a problem when using the spb quick today plug-in with this new spb Pocket Plus today plug-in? It seems to me that they cannot co-exist. The spb Quick was installed first. When installing the spb Pocket Plus today, I had two copies of the spb Quick information. I removed the spb Quick from the today screen items (in the setting menu) but it still existed on the today screen. I then performed a soft-reset and the Pocket Plus appeared where it should. I tried re-enabling Quick and that caused the space where Pocket Plus was supposed to go to be completely blank and the space where Quick was supposed to go to be occupied by the Pocket Plus plug in.

Seeing as this isn't the first today plug-in abnormality I've seen in the spb software (I've only tried out Quick and Pocket Plus), it looks as though this feature needs a little work.

Mainly if I need the date when I am not on my Today screen. One tap vs 2 to get to Today and 1-2 taps to get back to where I was. Plus, it has the battery level (not big for me anymore - GPRS Montior shows that all of the time) I use the popup 2-3 times a week, minimum.

After messing with Gigabar, WisBar and half a dozen other task switchers, I always go back to the simplicity of Pocket Nav. For the first time, I may have found a replacement in Pocket Plus. Very tight integration. :way to go:

So far I have seen no mention of GigaTask (http://www.gigatask.com). It occupies just the space where the X button lies on the Titlebar so that you can still see notifications. Yet it has all the power of GigaBar and three different modes (TaskBar pop-up menu, TitleBar X which closes apps, or in the Pro mode there are 4 tiny icons in the space of the X that each has a ten option menu (40 possible choices including acting as an application launcher). IMHO this is the best task mamager out there (but then again, I use almost all the features it offers ;) ). BTW, did I mention that you can skin GigaTask.

Regarding Pocket Plus, does the repeating alarm with incremental increases in intensity work as advertised?

I tried it last night but found that tapping on the 'Connection' icon when connected didn't pop-up the Hide/End connection bubble. Makes it hardly any more useful than WisBar, in fact a little worse, since you can't seem to stop PocketPlus very easily.

Can both GT and PPlus be installed at the same time? I KEEP forgetting to d/l and try GT. (Had lost the fervor -- my old PPCs had become boring -- but now restoked with all these new PPCs)

Open calendar, tasks, and contacts. Then bring up the task menu. Only the next one in the application stack shows up. If you close all it takes you back to the today page and closes the task that was shown on the menu at the time. When you you bring the menu up again the next app in the stack is shown but two are still running. You have to close all for each app, calendar, contacts, and tasks.

I have an e740 newest rom update.

Bug or feature??

Oh and what it the upgrade policy?

I had the same problem. I'm pretty sure it's related to the UI glitch with respect to the clock. It seems to vary between devices/users, and I'm pretty sure they're aware of it and are fixing it.

Tried PocketPlus. It's nicely integrated overall but still has some quirks to work out. The integrated icon on the PIE menu bar moves from right-most to left-most which ends up overlapping with original icon. I beleive it happens when switching between "hide menu in full screen mode".

One of the best thing (to me) about WisBar is being able to see your battery and memory consumption level on the title bar at any time in any application. PocketPlus has nice illustration of these resource status through the Today screen plug-in but like Battery Pack, it is still limited to the Today screen. The constant availability of these resource status is most important when using GPS devices in a car and no external power is hooked up or when using Wi-Fi/BT functionality which are power hogs applications. I'd like to purchase PocketPlus if the Battery and Memory consumption icons can be optionally applied to show up on the title bar.

Thanks for consideration (Jason? )

Yes, I agree. It's very promising, though, for a 1.0 version--I've already stopped using my other task managers, even with the UI quirk. And I'm sure Jason is watching this forum very carefully. :)

This thing is great, there is only one thing it is truly lacking in my opinion, and that is the ability to use the hardware button in Pocket IE to go forward, back, refresh, and home. This is a feature I really want, and it will make a big difference in whether I pay for the product at the end of the trial run. Will this feature be implemented?

For me to replace Battery Pack, Pocket Plus needs to be able to show all batteries & memory readings. One Battery Pack icon toggles between program & storage RAM and another between storage card & file store space. Also, the power icon for PP says "charging" even if the device is fully charged. I do like the alarm & PIE features though, and the toolbar is much easier to set up than the one in BattPack.

Pocket Plus also doesn't let me do custom links to programs. I installed a game and it installs in program memory for some reason even if I specify storage card. I moved it to card, and it works fine. Battery pack lets me reassign the path, but Pocket Plus doesn't seem to.

You all forget to mention another quick which would really make this program amazing. The ability to change the Today plugin thingie to make it go above the date, the owner, the appts, etc. on the today screen.
However, I must comment how amazing the react time to the fix of this problem. I am seriously considering this program.

I bought it... for me the price did it. Although there are a few more features in programs like BatteryPack, for 10 bucks this does the trick for me.

If I had one feature suggestion I would also ask that the battery meter change when it is fully charged.

BTW, you can make it go above everything but the date on the Today screen (so to Today under Settings). Not sure why it can't go above date but BatteryPack had this problem too.

Jason Lee

Nothing can go over the date. If you dig through the registry where the today items are located the date isn't even there. The option to enable the date is in the key above the "items". So the date is not treated as a today item/plugin. It is a system thing I suppose.

I don't know if anyone else has noticed this already (didn't read the whole thread yet), but the powerindicator doesn't seem accurate.
I use SPB GPRS monitor and SPB PocketPlus side by side (the evaluation copies), and i notice that the batterystatus monitor of GPRS monitor gives me a completely different time than PocketPlus does. So now i don't know which indicator to trust anymore...
Is there a fix coming up for this ? And apparently both applications do not gather their power-info in the same way, or do they ???

I did end up buying it (like I said I would :) ) and installed it this morning (*just* before the 1.1 realease :x ). It is a great little program, however, I've already missed one appointment reminder......Specifically, the Calender appointment reminder didn't ring *until* I turned on my iPaq. NOW, I think I've had this problem before I installed Pocket Plus (and therefore its not related to Pocket Plus). The main reason why I'm posting on this is becuase I need to get up to speed on whatever problem this is FAST, and maybe someone could offer assistance.

Then again, maybe it is related to Pocket Plus (and I'm not hideously OT)?

I have an iPaq 3835, freshly hard reset and taken to ROM 1.20 & EUU3, with little else installed on it yet. TIA!! I don't *believe* I was having this problem before upgrading to ROM 1.20 and/or EUU3. Maybe I should of answered the EUU poll differently?

I recall there is a program which goes above the date, owner info, etc., called Battery Monitor. Its on Handago as a program which keeps accurate information and even voice notifications on battery status.
Apparently, the screenshot they give goes above all the information the TOday screen does.

Check it out.

My friend at Spb Software (not Jason, my OTHER friend) says that the battery prediction model with PocketPlus is much more sophisticated and actually a much better indiator than the earlier one used in GPRS Monitor. I'd rely on the Pocket Plus number.

Whilst version 1 repeating alarm feature works with P.I version 3.41LX-R on the Pocket LOOX in calender entries it appears to be un-reliable on alarm notes. Infact there are no repeating alarms options as seen in calendar alarm dialogues. Has this been cured in version 1.1?

Then again, maybe it is related to Pocket Plus (and I'm not hideously OT)?

I have an iPaq 3835, freshly hard reset and taken to ROM 1.20 & EUU3, with little else installed on it yet. TIA!! I don't *believe* I was having this problem before upgrading to ROM 1.20 and/or EUU3. Maybe I should of answered the EUU poll differently?

Brian, there was another thread somewhere in here about this problem. The currently accepted fix is to allow your PPC to power-off itself ( or to leave it on for AT LEAST 10 seconds after setting the alarm). I wish I could find the thread for you, but I'm having a brain-fart right now. And, no, this problem is NOT related to Pocket Plus, but rather the PPC2k2 OS itself.

Thanks for your reply. First off, I was aware of the thread you refer to (its here: http://www.pocketpcthoughts.com/forums/viewtopic.php?p=48891)

However, I wasn't sure that thread applied to me, as that *seemed* to be about setting alarms (via the clock), and not calendar appointment reminders. Perhaps the issues discussed there apply to both? If so, I'll move my questions on this issue over there.....thanks :)

I recall there is a program which goes above the date, owner info, etc., called Battery Monitor. Its on Handago as a program which keeps accurate information and even voice notifications on battery status.
Apparently, the screenshot they give goes above all the information the TOday screen does.

Check it out.

This one?
It shows it below everything on the today page. It is the 6th item down. The second image of the gif is of the program running not the today page.
I would assume that it is possible to put something over the date on the today page but it will not be a standard today plugin. It will have to be some kinda system UI tweak. Or if you want something at the top of the today page just disable the date. If you go into the registry location \HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Shell and add a new String value called TBOpt and set the value to 3 then reboot, the clock on the start bar will show the date and time. If you set it to 2 you will only get the date or set it to 1 and everthing will work as normal. Keep in mind that when set to 2 or 3 the analog clock will not display, you just get part of the date.

It seems like its another "today plugin". That would be awesome to use for Pocket Plus.

new update:
If anyone is still reading this, i would like someone to try out Pocket Plus with all the features checked, including the close, minimize stuff, and try setting a numeric pw for the PPC2k2 handheld.

I tried it, and I noticed if I do it fast, it crashes my handheld. It could also be cuased due to the Dell switcher bar as well however.

Funny, all this discussion about moving Pocket Plus to the top of the today screen. I personally like the icon bar to be as close to the bottom of the screen as possible to avoid 'stretching' up the screen.

Similarly, one of my favourite features of WisBar, was that you could configure it to accept a tap to summon the Start Menu anywhere on the title bar (to the left of the rhs icons). That would be a great feature for Pocket Plus. Again it saves 'stretching' (for a right hander) over to the left of the screen to tap the Start Menu. After all the rest of the title bar isn't tappable normally so we'd not be losing anything.

This is an excellent app. I've been using the "Close" feature (don't use PIE and use Battery Pack 2003 for Today icons) for a couple of days now and it works like a charm.

If they could somehow make the Today program icons more like Battery Pack, specifically integrating the date into the program bar, and (more importantly) allowing custom control panel links (frontlight, power, memory, etc) it would be icing on the cake.

I'm still going to buy it though.

Wow that one is pretty cool. I downloaded the trial. It doesn't go above the date either. But they have a nice workaround. Their plugin will display the date as well so you can disable the system date thing and put this one at the top of your today page.

I tried it several times. Couldn't get mine to lock up. I have toshiba e740. It may be the dell thing you mentioned... :?

I use Battery Pack with the date feature enabled along with Pocket Plus...with the program bar plugin disabled. Works great...although I would drop Battery Pack if they made Pocket Plus' program bar work like Battery Pack

Well, if you are bold enough: PHM Registry Editor (http://www.phm.lu/products/PocketPC/RegEdit/)

Good luck!!!

I found it here: http://www.phm.lu/PocketPC/RegTweaks/

It says to create a binary value and set it to 13 00 00 00. Well after a little experimenting and looking at my old windows ce 2.11 jornada (where this is an option in th control pannel) i discovered that it is much easier to just create a string value and set it to 1, 2, or 3 depending on the option you want.

Here is a shot of the registry editor (http://www.phm.lu/products/PocketPC/RegEdit/) open to the the key.
Notice the date/time on the title bar?

Just be careful when changing things in the registry. It can really mess things up.

For those of you excited about SPB's PocketPlus, you'll be disappointed that it isn't 100% functional on the Axim. Repeating alarms work okay. The program "X" close features work okay. But the Today screen plug-ins aren't happy.

When you click on the battery and backlight icons from the Today screen, they don’t launch the control panel applets as expected. Also, the backlight icon in the Today screen doesn’t adjust the backlight. I've also recently noticed that the battery life indicator is wacky - right now, mine shows "0:00" time remaining and the indicator bar is at about 50%.

I’ve contacted SPB, but it wouldn’t hurt if everyone with an Axim and PocketPlus would contact them to request a fix in their next release. (Hopefully they have access to an Axim in SPB's homeland)

I have the exact same issue with the Casio E-200

On a general note, I find it very annoying that there are a number of software titles released for the PPC with quite obvious bugs and incompatibilities with different brands of pocketpc. It is more annoying that these tiltes have there features improved in successive versions but the bugs remain. This said I am not annoyed by this in the case of PocketPlus since the repeating alarm function and multiple Pocket I.E windows are such a welcome addition to the platform which seem to have alluded authors for some time.

Well done Spb... Hope to see a bug free updated version soon.

Got this today from the developer:

Dear XXXX,

as for now backlight control and battery meter don't work with Dell Pocket PC, but this will be fixed in one of the forthcoming updates that will be available as soon as we acquire a Dell Pocket PC (hopefully by the end of January).

Best regards,

Subject: Problems with Axim??

I have been reading on some of the boards that there is a compatibility issue with Pocket Plus and the Axim, is this true and what are your plans to resolve?? I am currently using a Maestro and was about to purchase this program for my Axim which is due to arrive today. I have had no issues with the Maestro but do not want to spend the money if there are issues with the current build.

See below link for discussion topic at Pocket PC Thoughts:

http://www.pocketpcthoughts.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=6336

Please advise as soon as possible. I need to begin loading programs today and would like to know if yours will work.

Thank you

Hey, it's nothing like the PPC 2000 days, when there were three different processors. In general, when you have system-level tools, it's quite a bit harder to maintain compatibility with devices that have different kinds of batteries, backlights, etc. The consistency that exists on the x86 platform deliberately doesn't exist here.
