Don't be scared off by the incompatibility report that Socket has on their website.
The Socket Low Power Wireless LAN Card is currently incompatible with the wireless router
(combination Router/Access Point) from D-Link (Model DI-713P) in that both the Socket Low
Power WLAN Card and the D-Link wireless router lock up after approximately five minutes of
normal association.
This combo works great for me. I initially was using the Socket driver on my Maestro and I did lose my connection occasionally. But, I switched to using the Symbol Pocket PC 2002 driver (http://www.symbol.com/services/downloads/documentation_drivers.html)and I have had rock solid performance since then. 8) It may be my imagination but it seems like my Maestro ceased periodically locking up on me when I switched to the Symbol driver. It requires a registry change to get it to work with the Socket card. Make the registry change after you install the Symbol driver and before you insert the Socket card.
At:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Drivers\PCMCIA\
Replace:
Symbol-Spectrum24_LA4100_Series_WLAN_PC_Card-e063
With:
Socket-CF+_LP_WLAN_Card_Rev_A-09DF

Download a registry editor - PHM (http://www.phm.lu/Products/PocketPC/regedit.asp), Tascal (http://www2r.biglobe.ne.jp/~tascal/download/pocketpc/regedit_e.htm)

A similar trick also works if you want to use your Socket card on the laptop. Disclaimer: this is unsupported and may void your warranty. Having said that, it works fine for me, and the card has fantastic range given its tiny size. :)

Interesting! I just downloaded a new firmware to my 713p but didn't see what they changed in it. The readme file included with it didn't say much.

I wish Dlink would fix the problem though, they must know about it by now.

From what I've read the Socket card is a lot better than the Linksys or D-link card isn't it?

I really like my Socket card. Works fine with my D-Link DWL900AP+ but only if the AP is set to use short preamble. Might be worth a try on your 713P.

I haven't used those two, so I can't really compare, but from a size/power perspective, the Socket/Symbol card is the smallest. Not as cheap though...
