I sent off the following e-mail to SPB Soft, using the only contact e-mail I could find ([email protected]).

I downloaded and installed the trial version of Pocket Quick, but cannot seem to get sychronization working. Every time I try to sychronize I get the error message, "Could not open Quicken file. Do you want to edit options and try again?" I have provided the appropriate synchronization settings, pointing to "C:\Program Files\QUICKENW\QW.EXE" as the Quicken location, and "C:\Program Files\QUICKENW\FAMILY.QDF" as the Quicken file to sync with. These are the correct paths, so I don't understand why sychronization doesn't work. Does synchronization not work on the trial version? Or does the program not work with the Canadian edition of Quicken 2001 (deluxe), perhaps? Either way, I would very much like to confirm that Pocket Quick does actually work before buying it.

Unfortunately, it was returned to me with the following error message.

Has anybody out there had either the problem with Pocket Quick that I describe or the problem contacting SPB Soft that I have had? If so, I would love to hear how you resolved it!

I rolled back to an older version of Spb Quick.

I also noticed Spb opens Quicken in the background and if quicken opens up a dialog box that the sync between the two will hang until the dialog box is removed. Example, before I installed Spb I deleted all my printer drivers since I no longer have any printers. Well when I tried to sync a dialog box in Quicken 2003 popped up in the background saying something about a print feature will not work without a default printer. So I closed all the programs and installed a random priner driver and now all is well.

Well, not having downloaded SBP Quick before, I can't roll back to an older version. Any other suggestions? I'm kinda hoping Jason will notice this thread, since he's working for them!

Hugh - Spb was having some domain problems (remember Jason posted about it on the front page last week?), so that explains your email bounce. Things should be back to normal by now, so try emailing them again. :D

Yeah, I knew that. But I only e-mailed them last night, so, given that their domain problems have been resolved for a while now (I looked up their web-site, for example, by typing www.softspb.com into my browser's address bar and it worked), I thought it odd that e-mail should still be bouncing. Good idea to try again though. I'll let you know what happens.

Well, got through. Tried a different address on the contact us page this time. SPB has already responded, which is great! I'll let you know if they manage to fix the problem!

(I really, really hope they do, as I've been waiting for a Quicken client for the Pocket PC ever since I first bought mine two years ago!)

The latest release, 1.06, finally has most of the kinks worked out... installs just fine on Win98, and accurately tracks balances.

OK, finally got it working. Finally figured out that my firewall was preventing the program from synchronizing. Did so on my own, almost by accident, since Spb never got back to me after I sent them my sync logs. But perhaps they never got them given the domain name difficulties they've been experiencing. They certainly seemed eager to help in their first (and only) reply to my queries.
