View Full Version : Some issues with the New Posts search?

Personally I always use the New Posts feature to scan through everything new since the last time I visited - very handy. Lately I've been noticing that the search results often have a blank page at the end and it seems to be caused by the search routine getting confused about how many actual results are found. For example, the header might display 'Search found 64 matches' and include four pages of results (3 * 20 + 4), but in fact only show 58 matches thereby leaving the fourth page empty.

Just thought I'd make a mention of this in case I'm not alone here.

I have that problem just about every day, though you actually took the time to try to figure out why it happens. :)

Me too. I've also unfortunately many times searched for new topics, didn't finish reading all of them, went to do something else, came back and all those new messages I haven't read yet aren't showing up anymore in "New Messages". :(

I really would like an "Unread Messages" button up there too....

...or even a "Today's Posts" button. I have the same thing happen to me. Once I click into "New Posts" I'm virtually trapped there. (OK, a bit of an exaggeration, but you get my drift).

A "Today's Posts" would take care of it for me.

Yes, it seems that the amount of time before it marks some of the "New Posts" as "Read Posts" isn't all that long.

The blank-page problem isn't new, I think.

For what it's worth, if you go the main forums page, there are three links in the upper right. Sometimes, those help mitigate the "disappearing" new posts.

It's a problem with the way phpBB tracks "read posts" - rather than having a per-post cookie, it's based on a timer, which causes some odd behaviour. Not a lot we can do unfortunately.
