Actualy the Xbox is still selling strong... with Live out now, the GC sales have dropped, while the Xbox sales still go on.

Nintendo has thought about dropping the price, again, to $99.....
PS2 is still the leader, but the Xbox is a solid 2nd (a first time console for MS), GC still falling behind.
Xbox is only 11 million units behind the Worldwide numbers of PS2... GC is 14 million shy... and the Xbox has been out a year now, PS2 now going on 3....

BTW I have both PS2 and Xbox... I should dust off the PS2 again someday... :lol:

If Miyamoto doesn't deliver in March (Zelda) my Cube will be on eBay. From seeing the videos, I don't think my Cube is going anywhere.

Urm dude, I write about videogames to make a living( heading to Japan january 8th to interview Sega´s Smilebit( jet set radio future and panzer dragoon orta on XBox and Square among others).
I KNOW what the sales are like and believe me I hate Sony as a company but simple fact remains that worldwide Sony has a 30Million unit lead on XBox and GC.
Yah the Sega pack spiked the sales of the XBox worldwide but it still trails the PS2, Nintendo is the big loser in all of this tough.

Actualy the last PROJECTED numbers for PS2 at the end of the year was 24.2 million ps2's worldwide..... not hardly a 30million lead over Xbox... which is at 14 million units worldwide...

I stand corrected... they have SHIPPED a total of 40 million worldwide... not sold though

Urm no, Sony claims 41 million sold, in reality those are the shipped units as of november first.
MS shipped around 12 million as of november first.
Sell trough numbers put the PS2 at between 38 and 40 million units and the XBox between 9 and 11 million units.
No doubt that in the months of november and december millions will be sold of each machine.
And all things goin well the XBox worldwide installed base is set to pass that of the Gamecube in april.
Both play a distant fiddle compared to the juggernaut called PS2 tough.
wich IMO is a sad thing.

Now *if* all of them sold, and now have around 8 million more sold since May 9th....

that would mean the Sony PS2 sold more in the last 6 months than any other 6 month period... 12 million in 6 months... since they announced a shipped total of 26 million in a Feburary 2002. they shipped another 4 million in 3 months. then another 8 in 6 months? and every last one sold?

Remember this is DIRECTLY from sony. they state SHIPPING numbers, not total sold.

UK PS2 sales are down... Denmark ps2 sales are down... German Ps2 sales are down... Xbox outsells both in those markets...

That would mean that the Xbox is gaining some serious ground....

Now a August Press release BY sony says they have an installed base of only 11 million here......

Now wait a second here.... didn't they ship more units to the states than anywhere else?.... if in May they only shipped a total of 11.3 million units... now with an installed base of 11 million....

Now we all know that Japan and the US are the biggest markets...
Now all of 2001 the PS2 sold only 3.6 million units...

In 2001 Sony sold 3.6 million units of the PlayStation 2 console for the year in Japan and Nintendo sold 925,925 units of the GameCube and 4.2 million units of the Game Boy Advance

That would really mean that the Europe sales of the PS2 is blowing away the US sales to get that almost 40 million number...

But wait... if they sold 3.6 million PS2's... and shipped as of May 9th 2002... a total of 9.9 million..... yet worldwide only sold 5.5 million since the Price drop in November 2001- the first week in January 2002. Still alot of sales to be made to make that 38million base that you claim... even Sony don't support that number.







But this is really a bunch of crap to argue over... not worth it.


Ms is in a solid 2nd place... and the GC still spirals toward an also ran. PS2 *is* the domanant seller, but it has the PS1 games able to play on it, and a reputation. the Xbox is a fresh console from MS.
Give it time and the PS2 will lose ground.

Not in this hardware generation it will, and in the next it will be lucky if it posts simmilar numbers.
Oh and youre UK numbers couldnt be further of, last OFFICIAL nmbers I received from INDEPENDENT hard/software tracking firms had weekly sales in the UK for PS2 at 108k, XBox at 38k and GC at 10k.
Thats for the UK alone.

The xbox probably won't surpass the PS2, until the PS3 is out... next fall right?
the next Xbox and the PS3 will be a big battle... alot closer than it is now, and with PS3 on top... but MS won't give up. (lets hope MS does what sony did, backwards compatible game hardware)
Who knows, the Xbox may never be the #1 console out there... but it will always give the #1 console a run for the money, it could take 2-3 generations of console wars to make it to #1 also... But the Xbox is here to stay. the GC is really going downhill... I probably will still pick one up, but the rumor is it's dropping to $99. I'll wait until then, doubt it will ever go below that.

I still think that Nintendo could possible become the next Sega... make games instead of consoles. Just think, Nintendo dropped Sony, Sony finished the project and made the PS1.... Nintendo must be kicking themselves...

Where are people getting info that the PS3 is out next fall? I have seen/heard more than one or two comments about this but I have never seen the original article that claims it. Just curious....

I saw one a few months back, saying next fall for the PS3... now I do see it saying 2005.

When the xbox first came out I read alot about Sony pushing up the date for the PS3 release... maybe thats where the fall 2003 came from.. guess they went back to their origonal date now. who knows...
