New to PPC, video software recommendations?

I just got my new Toshiba e740. I was wondering what software was out there that I could use for videos? Is there a converter so I can convert my DVDs, movies, etc to smaller formats like divx or something? And what is a good player and format? Thanks for any help.

as i posted there, i just use plain ol' windows media player, and it works fine.
