Our community now has more than 5,000 registered users, we are getting close to a total of 50,000 posts (counting from February 2002) and Ed Hansberry just posted his 2,000th comment! See below!<br /><br /><img src="http://www.pocketpcthoughts.com/images/ed_01.jpg" />

True, so look at the Top 16 and exclude Jason, Ed, Brad, Andy, Marlof and Steve C. :-)

What's kind of amazing is that some of us have more postings than some of the people who help run it. I'm not sure if that's a good thing, though. :-D

Yeah, but consider this... barely 100 posts separate #3 from #10... but there is a huge gap from 1 to 2 and 2 to 3...

Ed has more posts than Brad / Marlof / Andy combined...

Jason has just about as many as Brad / Marlof / Andy and Ed combined!!

Hey, it's not that easy. Especially if you want to make your posts meaningful, which I do on nearly every thread.

So let's make this one meaningful too: does this milestone affect the success of PPCThoughts? Jason, do you get better ad revenue as a result? :)

Apart from the fact that you're a tongue-twisting master, could it possibly be that we have no life and hang around PPCThoughts most of the day? ;)

Sure. Take a look at the memberlist (http://www.pocketpcthoughts.com/forums/memberlist.php), and view it by Joined Date, ascending. You're member 204, but you still joined on Day 1 that this site was open to the general public, Feb 05, 2002.

Awww, you're just mad because every time you go globe-trotting you drop out of the top 10 list :)

Serioulsy, I do try to do multi-replies (including several replies in one post), and besides, YOU were the one who brought me here in the first place so any problems you have with my posting you have only yourself to blame for

I guess there isn't a list for longest members then?

The problem is that there are only records of when you registered with the new board and since most people were around by then the dates of most posters are within a few days of eachother...

marlof
12-11-2002, 08:52 PM
You know what the worst thing is of globetrotting? Physically not being able to log into Thoughts and the pocketpc newsgroup. I cheated when I was on the Azores, as I logged on during the last two days. I just couldn't take it any more, after being off line for 8 days in a row. I know... I'm a lost cause.

For those of you that remember the www.pocketpcthoughts.com that started somewhere in October 2000 that had no talk back functionality. Nor images in the text only entries. Ahh.... the silence. Jason went a long way from there, and I think it's very cool that a great community came from his enthusiasm. We're waiting for the people who remember our URL better than their own real life addres.... ;)

There is a userid #, though. Jason's userid is 2 (look at his profile URL... I'd bet #1 is default phpBB Administrator). Chris Edwards, who help set up the site, is 3. Marlof is 4.

Just for reference, on the memberlist, the # is 1 less than the userid as mentioned above, presumably to "hide" the administrator account.

Nevertheless, you can do comparisons. I'd lose badly, since I was one day late and a dollar short. So was JonnoB, IIRC. You are many days behind ;)

I started helping out Jason when he was running around the US helping out on the Mobile Experience Tour 2001 (http://www.microsoft.com/mobile/events/2001/mobileexperience/default.asp), so that would be May 2001. I see that Frank McPherson reported on my new "
job" on May 6 2001 (http://www.pocketpchow2.com/log/archive/2001_05_06_log.html#3517577), so it should be a little bit before that day.

There is one other which is interesting rather than funny, it's the very last article on the main page:
CONTEST: One Millionth Visitor? Guess here! - Dale Coffing over at Pocket PC Passion is having a little contest: the first person to come closest to guessing when the counter hits one million will win a Stowaway keyboard, either the Jornada or iPAQ version.

So anyway, to stray back on-topic a moment: I think perhaps a better indicator of "lack of life" is the average postings per day.. I mean, Kati is definitely hooked up to some Dialysis or something, how else does she manage to be such a prolific writer (and she actually writes useful comments!!!

Whereas we all know what Foo Fighter is secretly planning, as he said earlier (just thought I'd revive the tradition of attributing things to you that you never said, Foo.. no, really, no thanks are necessary).
