View Full Version : How much do you use your PPC?

I'm really thinking about getting a pocket pc, I used my palm m100 quite a bit before I dropped it 50 feet onto the concrete below (not a good day). It's either a paper organizer or one of these. I talk to some of my friends who have them, one says he uses his all the time, another none at all and he tells me not to get one. Many of the features look tantalizing (wi-fi mp3's video).
So here is the question: how much do you use yours, what do you use it for, and what do you consider the best reasons to buy/not to buy one?
Thanks guys. :D

I think you answered your own question. You should be able to do everything you did with your Palm. So if you got a lot of use out of it, you should get at least that out of a PPC. Plus, if you find wifi mp3 and video useful things, you will get even more use from those features.
BTW: My sick mind wants to know how you dropped it 50 feet onto concrete!

I travel a lot for work. It keeps my life on track really.
Making appointments, making my work-statements, notes during meetings: it all goes into my Loox. Sometimes i have to travel by train: MP3-player helps me pass my time. I use internet explorer and a GPRS phone to check the internet for news (and delays on the railroads), read my mail. I have to find out what train is best: a travelplanner on my Loox helps me decide which one. When i'm in the city: Citymaps helps me find the exact location.
My loox and i are insepperable really: It's there when i get up, it's plugged in when i go to sleep. My girlfriend sometimes gets jealous :(.

I use mine all the time - every single day. I have all my business contacts, personal contacts, tasks, passwords, webpages etc -- everything I used a paper planner for. Started and haven't looked back. Also, MP3s, news, Avantgo, ebooks, Pocket TV, picture viewer for my digital camera, games, Audible content, etc. I don't think I can live without it now. My husband gets a little irritated sometimes because I spend so much time with it

I use mine a lot, I make sure I depreciate all my PDA's appropriatly (note my signature). One thing I find myself doing is hiding it...for instance, today I was in a meeting, and I was following along in the meeting with an Excel Spreedsheet, while everyone was making paper changes, I did it in Excel. However, the handheld was in my lap so no one would peer at it (not unless they wanted to look like a perv) because I really don't like people bringing it up because it makes it seem I only use it for conversation or gloating purposes.

Hah! I still have my HP545, HP548, and iPAQ 3670 - I tried to get him to use one of those and he couldn't sit still long enough to let me show him what to do! He can barely check his work e-mail. He hasn't checked his home e-mail that I set up for him. I don't think he even knows his user id or password :D
No, my husband's a lost cause - at least where computers are concerned. Otherwise he's pretty ok.

I had a Palm M125 that i wore out and it was too limited so off i went to upgrade to a Toshiba Genio e550. Man do i love this thing!! I have a home network and i am a junky for electronics and computers so this was definately a treat. I use my digital camera a lot for my work and play so this comes in handy to pop out my CF card from my camera and put it in my handheld and present slide shows or presentations with PictPocket Cinema. I also use Excel for a huge customer base that i visit in my territory. I say go for it. You will use it for all of the old tasks and learn to use it for all sorts of new ones. My only suggestion is do your homework on which model to buy. Some have better support, or more accessories, or bigger screens (Genio e550) and decide which flash cards are the best for your needs.

Certain people use them and certain people don't. I've been using a pocket pc everyday since i got my first one in 2000. I use mine for calendar, contacts, tasks, mp3s, mpegs, ebooks, games, wireless surfing in bed and wherever else, and other things. However my good friend, who is just as much a geek as me, bought a Casio EM500 last year and then sold it after about 6 months. I don't get him sometimes.
