Especially useful are the comparison images of the 5450 and the 3800 (or is it a 3900?) series device. Arne also shows a few of the accessories that fit nicely on the 5450.

Great pictures, Arne.

BTW - didn't Compaq say the GSM/GPRS pack is not currently compatible? It fits, but I think the software's incompatible or somesuch.

Arne,

I'm curious, what camera did you use to take those pictures?

The meta data in the jpg's states that they were taken with a Nikon E5700.

You guys cateched me... ;-)
Yes, it's the Nikon Coolpix 5700 I'm tested for some weeks now.
In October I've started a thread about looking for a new camera (http://www.ppcw.net/stories.php?story=02/10/02/5787965) and got some pretty nice input from the PPCW.Net readers which one I should take. Finally I got the Coolpix 5700 for testing which I bought now, some days ago!
While I've wanted to wrote an article about this camera you got the news here - already... ;-)
It has a great Macro zoom and 5 Mega Pixel while it use 4x optical zoom plus 2x digital! If anyone have additional questions about the camera just drop me a note!

Yes, you are right. This was mentioned in the comments which was disabled (because some maintenance I need to do) when you seems to visit PPCW.Net. Currently the Wireless Pack isn't supported, something I've figured out after I shot the pictures. Sorry!

Hey Arne,

So you got a Coolpix5700... Good choice.

I too got a Coolpix but I opted for the smaller 5000 model and then I upgraded the Firmware to 1.7 which now gives me shutter response with no lag and an option to save in RAW (NEF) format.

I got the 5000 because I like the idea of the slide copier attachment which fits it really well and the option for a fisheye and wide angle adaptor as wellas te 2x and 3x tele adaptors.

Here is what Nikon Cooplix cameras can do. The 5700 can do this too.

My good friend chose the Minolta 7i instead, FWIW...

I'm having a hard time believing those dates - HP is reporting the 1910 will be available for online ordering in the middle of this month (so Feb 03 is wrong), and I find it very hard to believe they'd pre-announce the 5450 a full two months in advance. May 2003 for the GPRS version seems reasonable though.

Hmm, PocketPC Paradise is a French site, so I wouldn't use it as an accurate barometer for the release of the 5450 and 1910 in the US.

However, I would not be surprised to see a 4-6 month gap between the release of the 5450 and the 5650. The latter will likely be sold through wireless carriers once they test it, and they take forever to do that. Let's just hope it doesn't follow the path of the GSM/GPRS pack which came out in Europe 4-6 months ago and hasn't (will never) come out in the US.

That's the European (non English OS) release dates - I think...

phew

this guy almost gave me a heart atack :) well i am left without a pocket pc until the h5450 is released thats why i am worried.

Expansys had an extimate availability of the H5450 to 21 days, and H1910 to 18 days, which again is a bit not correct since the official HP site says 9 of Dec for the H5450 and last week of Dec for H1910, and i would not take more than 3 days to ship to any EU country(e.g UK with the standard English version). I did contact expansys earlier and they did tell me that they do not have actual dates so they are just estimating phew again.

I hope, for your sake, that HP's efficiency has taken over the iPaq Pocket PC operation. Compaq was not historically known for coming out with their Pocket PC's on time... as anyone trying to get a 3650 in May or June of 2000 can attest. (How I managed to get one in June, I'll never know. :))

Aren't you suffering from withdrawal symptoms yet? :-) Seriously, I take it the Pocket PC isn't essential to your daily life, but why get rid of it for a month?

Just curious,
Steve
