I read that the new Dell has a 4 way (5 way plus button) navigation button. Are all pocket pc's like this or do some have an 8 way button, or does it even matter with apps and games etc?

Worries me too, we'll see soon enough. I can't complain though, the J525 doesn't even have a nav button. I looked around though, and most the games I'll be playing either use stylus control or very simple movements. I just hope the responce time on the buttons is good, and it supports pressing multiple buttons at once. If not, it won't dent it much in my book. The only thing I can think of that really would use that is the emulators. I can't think of any apps off hand that would require an 8way nav.

I thought someone on a different thread said it supports multiple presses (ie, left and up) and was good for gaming....

I think what the original poster was talking about though is being able to use the d-pad to move in directions other than N-S-E-W (e.g. 45 degrees all around)
As for that, as far as I've been told (from an absolutely unreliable source but still) the D-Pad can only run in 4 directions. Then again, the best gaming PDA I ever had was the Casio and it had the same limitation.
