When all the wheeling and dealing is over, consumers who have the e-mail offer will pay $175 for the entry-level device with a 300MHz Intel XScale processor, or $265 for the advanced model with a 400MHz Intel XScale processor." The discount is being sent to previous Dell customers via email.<br /><br />As to the length of time the $50 rebate will be offered - "Dell has no intention of ending the $50 mail-in rebate, but would consider it "to modulate demand," a Dell representative said." Dell also sold 300 Axims on the first day of Comdex from their Kiosk. I just looked at their web site. I saw that they have sold out of their initial allotment of Axims already. The ship date is now December 16, not December 5.

Kinda makes you hope that Dell has done a good job on QA. It would suck if the device was problematic, what with all the excitement and the large demand of units.

I'm crossing my fingers, even though I'm not buying one.

Anyone have the code to get this discount?

It sounds like it was e-mailed directly to people. Perhaps you have to be on Dell's regular mailing list to have gotten it.

Does anybody know how many of these they can make in a day/week whatever? I'm just curious as to what kind of volume we're already talking about.

while this is all good news, I only hope this presses HP to lower their proces so I can get my hands on a 5450. I can never go back to anything less than transflective. Strip Poker just wouldn't be the same, i mean, email just wouldn't be the same.

This is either off-topic, or you haven't realized that the Dell is also backlit :D.

The 10% off is for existing Dell customers. If you are one and have not gotten the email with the coupon code (I didn't, or my email filtered it as spam), you can get the discount by calling customer service and asking for it.

I received the Dell email as a preferred Corporate Customer. It offered the rebate, but not a 10% discount. :?:

Actually ordered one (w/ my 10% coupon + free shipping), can't believe it, since I've been dead set on getting the 1910 *and* 5450 iPAQs 8O

The Axim 400MHz advanced, w/o cradle or any other accessories. Should net out ~$250 after rebate, before tax.

And that tax, ugh, why Dell's gotta be in TX? :?

I am trying to do a web based order so I can go through UPromise, though I am running out of time on the free shipping offer too :)

Oh yeah, can you go through those ebates-type sites to purchase (are they still around)?

Also, which credit card gives you like double the manufacturer warranty for free? I thought I'd read something about that in the past. But my Amex only gives 1 extra yr, and I'm not sure if those platinum Visa/MC cards do that too (anybody knows?)...

I used my MBNA Platinum Plus MC in Canada and they will double the warranty for up to a year, thanks for reminding me now I get 2 years of warranty and I did not have to spend extra $59 US. WOW this baby is getting cheaper by the minute.

Ordered the Axim Advanced today to replace my Audiovox Maestro (too short of battery life).

I used 2 one-time only codes I got from a couple of friends. One was for 10% off, the other for $30 off of $300 or more. That brought it down to about $318 shipped and taxed. This doesn't include the $50 rebate.

Too bad I have to wait a while to get it. Estimated ship date is December 16th. :?

Must control hand. Must not order Axim. Must not buy new PPC. No, Dell, NO, you cruel, evil, wicked, temptress!!!!!!

Man, are they playing hardball with this pricing.

They obviously don't think you're a person. ;) Call and ask for it.

This deal is actually real! I was set on not getting the Dell because of its form factor. But when I figured out I could get the 400MHz Axim for less than the V35, I couldn't resist. Final price: $264.10 after $50 rebate 8O

Dude, I got a Dell!!

I'm guessing this is exactly why Ed keeps predicting big things for Dell. Two people on this thread who were set on NOT buying the Dell have already given in.

If the QA on this device turns out the be solid...

I'm glad Dell's offering seems to be quite successful so far. But...

I just can't give in yet. I'm going to wait until after first round blows over and see what the market looks like in late January...

Plus, none of these are optimized, so I am holding out that MSFT will find a fix for that as well.

I took your advice. I called Dell. They told me I could only get a 10% discount and free shipping if I also ordered a PC. I just got a new Dell Laptop, but that doesn't count.

Now if X10.com starts selling their own PPC...

Dell will offer a slim, lightweight PPC next spring called the X3. That should be interesting.

It could have a built in Camera, I'd buy one :)

Well, if what I (and many others) suspect is true, the x3 may only retain for $150 and if that's the case you might be about to buy your current X5 and then spring for an X3 and still have money left over.

Good times all around - good times. Now all we need to spoil the party are rumours of the new PPC 2003 OS and VGA screens. It would be nice to actually enjoy a product for more than 5 minutes without it becoming 'obsolete'. :? Oh well - it's progress i guess....

although inexpensive...i didnt like the dell. screen is smaller than the ipaq and has a very odd sheen to it...hard to look at. not that bright and the audio is pretty weak...but of course, people buying this are not buying a little multimedia device..its a nice organizer that can do a few tricks

Are you talking about screen glare? All PDAs have that.

not that bright

I disagree. The screen is excellent. Better than some top of the line PDAs I've seen.....Toshiba, I'm looking in your direction.

[b]and the audio is pretty weak...but of course, people buying this are not buying a little multimedia device..

Audio quality is pretty darn good from what I've heard. I did notice a slight reverb at the highest volume setting though.

its a nice organizer that can do a few tricks

I'm not following you. The Axim has the very same feature set as any other non-wireless Pocket PC.

Ordered a Dell Desktop 8250. It arrived yesterday with a $100 off for Software and Peripherals orders over $400. Used it with a top of the line model and extra battery and got the whole thing shipped for $302. Still have the $50 rebate to claim. Pretty good deal if you're in the market for a desktop
