:?: Hi I am new to this forum and have just ordered the Dell Axim. I am a 3 yr palm user so I am in unchartered water. From what I've seen of ppc it should functionaly replace my palm. I have had difficulty with the transcriber when writing in Word or other areas on hand held. Is anyone aware of a good resource for tips on free writing on the ppc. I use a palm software called jot that virtually recognizes all my writing. On some of the demos Ive tried I can't even get the ppc into the transcriber mode. I am hoping that practice will make "close to perfect" Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks[/b]

One thing that kind of helped me is you can "teach" your ppc how YOU write. I put teach in quotes because you don't actually show it how you write an A or B or C but instead it gives you anywhere from 2 to 8 different ways to write a letter (depending on the letter) and you let it know how you write it. Make sense?
Umm... let's see...
OK, the number 8. PPC's will recognize the number 8 if you write it "forward" "backward" or by drawing two circles one on top of the other. You can tell it "I never write it backwards or with the two circles." That way if one day you're writing the word "look" and accidentally somehow kind put one O on top of the other your PPC will know you were not writing an 8.
There are also a lot of third party transcribers out there but I have not used any. But I'm sure someone will post them for you.
But as I said, after I taught my PPC how I write I had a lot less problems.
Good luck. :)

If you want an excellent handwriting recognization program, get Calligrapher. It's like an up-scale Transcriber. It recognizes your handwritting so much better. So far, i've only had to correct a few mistakes. With transcriber, I was always correcting things.

You might take a moment to read through another thread (http://www.pocketpcthoughts.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=4849&highlight=) that Jason started. It contains many suggestions and alternatives to Transcriber.
