Im not really sure how the Bluetooth SD Card works. I'm thinking about buying one for my Toshiba E310. Is it possible to somehow go wireless with bluetooth? Like PC to PDA? or GPS to PDA?

Thanks

That's exactly what Bluetooth was designed for (PC --> PDA, PC --> printer, etc). Bluetooth is designed as a short-distance wireless connection between two devices. A good example is the keyboard and mouse that MS just released. No more wires on your desk!

It is only designed to work something like 30 yards (as opposed to something like 350 for WiFi, or 802.11b), so it uses less power than other wireless options. It also allows you to leave certain hardware in your bag while using their features. The most common use, so far, is either PDA --> mobile phone or mobile phone -->wireless headset.

Emtac has (or announced) a Bluetooth GPS device, but I don't know what software will support it. Here is a link to the Crux II BTGPS device (http://www.emtac.com/products/bluetooth/index.html).

Steve

P.S. Please do not post long URLs "naked". They really mess up reading the forums by causing lines not to wrap, forcing a lot of horizontal scrolling.

Use the second form of the URL tag (which is what I did above), like this:

[URL=http://www.tigerdirect.com/reallylongproductcode]Tiger Direct[/URL]

instead of just putting the URL in the text or using

[URL]http://www.tigerdirect.com/reallylongproductcode[/URL]

Theoretically, they should work together (assuming the e310 has a SDI/O port, which I think it does, but I'm not sure).

Be forewarned, though, that many people have had a LOT of problems getting two Bluetooth devices that are/should be compatible to work together. Hopefully you won't have this problem, but you might, so be patient!

Another thing to remember is that using Bluetooth for a wireless passthrough will limit your effective range to around 20-30 feet. Bluetooth is generally used more for PAN (Personal Area Networking), so you might not get the range you're looking for. If you just need it for, say, a dorm room, however, you should be fine. Good luck!

Well i hope they work out. Actually the Bluetooth SD Card was made specifically for my E310 by Toshiba. But i hope everything else works okay... I only plan on using it within a 20 ft anyways...

Bluetooth works quite well for Internet sharing.... using WIN XP, I share out my cable connection to my Pocket LOOX at home (I'm using Tecom's USB BT device on the Desktop PC). In my small flat, I can go anywhere with my LOOX (reading room, couch, bed, etc..) and chat, check emails, sync Avantgo channels, stream music, or surf the net. The Ipaq 3870 does it without any problem, too ... my friend comes over, and connects to my network to check his email, etc...

Socket are planning to support Bluetooth GPS (using an Emtac GPS unit) with their CF card and, I presume, their SDIO card. Similar setup to this (http://www.infosync.no/news/2002/n/2529.html).
