Jason's recent post about Visual HTML eidtors ( http://www.pocketpcthoughts.com/forums/viewtopic.php?p=37481 ) got me thinking. Are there any good text / html editors for the PocketPc?? It doesn't have to be a visual editor, but something with auto complete tags maybe? Or even color codes for known elements.

Any suggestions?

BlueRocket there are a few:

HTMLEdit
Eazy Html Editor
TagEdit

and more head over to Handango or Pocketgear and do search for HTML editor they are about $5 each and most let you try before you buy.

Personally I like TagEdit...

There is a pretty nice one embedded in the Laridian PocketBible (www.laridian.com). If you go to their note editor, it is a HTML based editor. There are buttons for formatting bold etc and a pulldown menu for list items etc.
It basically inserts the tags for you.

Thanks.

I'll install some of these tonight, and try them out on my daily train ride to work!

I installed 3 or 4 of the editors I found on Handango, and I have to say that I was very disappointed. I was expecting something with a little more polish.

From what I download, TagEdit was the best, but still needs lots of work. One of the bigger issues, when you open the input panel, the scroll bars don't resize. So you can no longer scroll effectively!

I guess the search continues.... I'll use Word until I find something a little nicer. :(

Have you tried "lgtEditor"? I can't remember where I got it from, and I've only used it once or twice (for very basic things), but it seems to do an adequate job.

If you have, can you let me know what drawbacks you found as forewarned is fore-armed, as they say.

Nope, not yet. Here's a URL for it, http://www.freewareppc.com/docs/lgteditor.shtml I'll download that tonight and let you know what I find out.

I just installed HTMLEdit from BnKSoft.com. It seemed nice, but it only supports *.htm* files. So if you want to edit a XML, XSL, ASP, or JS file.... too bad.

Needless to say, I have removed that application.

I installed lgtEditor as per Adam's suggestion. It's FREE, unlike all the other ones I have installed. I like it the best so far. However, I still can't edit XML, XSL, ASP... I won't relist all the file types. I just don't understand why they haven't included a ALL FILES option.

This is a nice editor, but it won't do what I need. :(

Hmmm, it does seem a bit odd. I haven't developed anything other than very simple Java apps. to run on a PPC yet so I don't know how much effort the open file stuff is. I guess, unless something else comes along, the best bet is to email them and ask if they can add it..?

Pocket Notepad by Trilliansoft?

http://tillanosoft.com/ce/pnotepad.html

I also emailed a user from the pocketmatrix forum that was developing a program a while back called Xedit. I will wait for his reply on this program and it state. I remember that it was an all in one editor program for various formats. I think it does XML but this project might be dead.

Well, in the desktop environment that I usually develop in... it's not that much work. You just have to check that the file they have selected is a text file and trap the error if it isn't.

So far, I have done one app for the ppc, just a simple conversion utility that uses an XML file to store the different conversions and the respective forumlas. This is starting to look like my next ppc project....

Ya, PocketNotepad is a good all around text editor. It doesn't add any HTML tags or other stuff like that. I think I might install that to get me by until I find something that supports all the document types I'm looking for.

I just found this on a google search:

http://www.pinetreesoftware.net/pocketpc/torpedoasp/

Looks like it supports ASP, HTML, and XML. However, the cost is $25! ouch. I'll give the demo a try tonight. See if it's worth that much money first.

Let me know how you got it. All I can find is "Coming Soon." The Palm software is available but not Pocket PC yet.
