Wistron is the company making the Dell Pocket PC. "The company plans to make smartphones in the second quarter of next year, using Microsoft’s Pocket PC 2003 Phone Edition and Intel’s newly-launched PXA 262 chip, which places an Intel XScale technology based processor directly on top of Intel StrataFlash memory chips in a single package."

Interesting - Q2 of 2003 and talking Pocket PC 2003 (not 2002) Phone Edition. Goody! Now we can start to wonder if the next release of the Pocket PC OS is in Q1. One more piece of information to add to the speculation  [/b]

Intel was showing the 262 off at the MEG keynote and sounded very interesting they said it was outperforming the 400 Mhz Xscale despite being 100 Mhz slower!

I am not sure how much stock to put into that 2003 comment. They also said it was a smartphone. Wouldn't that be based on the Smartphone software? Anyway, the good news is whatever the device is and whatever it is running, it is a new converged device of some sort. :)

Ed, I agree with you on the validity of the quote. It is interesting, however, that I keep hearing little bytes that seem to refer to the early 2003 dates.
Plus, one can dream, can't they?

True, but if you publically acknowledge that fact, it's not as much fun. Sort of like professional wrestling  ...

I'm just interested to note that it is going to have an Xscale.
The only reason I note this is because some people, whom shall remain nameless, kept telling me that I was stupid for wanting ARM5 optimization and it would never happen. Because the SmartPhones and Phone Editions were StrongARM ARM4. But of course this is just a fluke, we don't need no stinkin optimization! Well not until were told we need it anyway
