Hi All,
I have been asked to give a presentation on Pocket PCs at work this Friday. Yes, the topic really is that general... I am looking for ideas for a possible outline for such a presentation.
The audience will be pretty mixed with those who are familiar to those who are unaware of such devices.
I've been contemplating a brief history, as well as explanation of devices that are often confused with Pocket PCs, down to the merits of the PPC. Any thoughts, ideas, comments, links, resources, etc. etc. are welcome.
I have about 45min to an hour max.
Thanks in advance,
Aaron

I don't think you can talk about PocketPCs without starting on its foundations. Brief outline of PDAs, starting with the Newton (my first love, as it were, so I'm a bit biased).
Move on to the history of Windows CE (http://www.pocketpclife.com/issues/issue199904/wonderful001.html).
From there, I'd say it highly depends on your audience.

Are you using PowerPoint? Do you have the gear to do the presentation from your Pocket PC? That usually impresses people...

Or turns them off permanently, depending on how bad the presentation goes.

Thanks for the link Jorj, that gets starts me thinking, I have pondered starting the history even further back, perhaps as far back as the old HP calculators working up to Newtons, Psions, the HP LX series, etc... but not sure if it would relevant - or entertaining.
As far as using the PPC in the presentation, probably going to use Pocket Controller with an HTML background. I have an RF remote for my laptop which I'll keep in my pocket to click a link on the HTML background to display new "slides" and demonstrate different functions through a wireless card on my PPC - I'll use the skinning feature of Pocket Controller so that the audience actually sees what the device looks like. In case of problems I think I'll create the html page with screenshots that will be hidden behind the emulation of the device so that I can default to the good old static pages as a last resort. Hope this makes sense - kinda hard to describe without actually showing the features of Pocket Controller...
At any rate, still looking for more ideas on content - cool features - value add... I mean, what is the real value of these devices anyway? (I'm looking to stir up the pot here to incite some discussion) The people I work with will most likely ask "Why not Palm?" or "Why not paper and pencil?" Thoughts...?
Thanks again,
Aaron

show off some features that may appeal to business users more - maybe network controlling, msn messenger, VPN, or terminal services client. bring in whatever accessories you have to show off. or, if you have a webcam, you can record a video and play it off of your pocket pc for the "ooooh ahhhh" effect.
or pick up a movie trailer from pocketrocketfx.com or pocketmovies.net.
can i ask why you're giving this presentation?

That's a great question, basically I'm doing the presentation because management asked me too. From several discussions with key people I have been able to come up with two reasons:
1. They want to be current with the latest technologies. (Understand the impact PPCs will have on the way we do business, etc., Plus just be able to talk the talk)
2. They are curious as to the viability of the PPC to generate value-add for their employees. In other words help increase productivity.
