View Full Version : Genio E550 and SprintPCS Vision 3GMerlin Card?

Having just joined this board, I've read anything even remotely connected with the E550, but am still looking for some pre buy help if anyone would care to answer. Is it still impossible to increase screen brightness with the integral battery? Does the external battery sleeve act like ac power to allow for boosting the brightness bar to high? Would the PC card sleeve work for connecting the Sprint PCS Vision wireless card, and has anyone had any luck with such cards like the Sprint or Verizon wireless card. Apologies if these q's are redundant, simplistic or jerky. Haven't had a ppc type of any kind since my old Journda 680 handheld, now largely unsupported. I did see the Genio in a CUSA
today & it's screen was darker then Ipaq, but that larger screen real estate is certainly a big draw. I'd like to maybe load IDRUNA's photojournalists software, PhoJo into the Genio for wireless sending of jpegs. Idruna favors the IPaq, even selling them turnkey, but the Genio just seems to have more onboard usability what with the two card slots. I know someone asked about registry hacking to solve the brightness issue but is that what it would really take? Thanks for all help.

I've been trying to get an answer to a similar question: whether the T-Mobile voice/data pc card (Sierra Air Card 750) will work in the e550G's PC card sleeve. Called Audiovox Tech support, and they didn't have a clue. They agreed to send an email query to Japan for me, but I haven't found out if that will produce a real answer yet. I also posted that question in the e550G forum at Diane's Pocket PC PDA, with no luck yet.

Hopefully we'll both find the answer we need :!:

At Brighthand's Toshiba forum, there are mixed, bordering on somewhat negative projections of whether the pc card expansion pack will recognize such wireless cards. But the Fan Page says that Verizon is gonna start selling the E550. I could live with the front light dimming in the hopes that a patch or hack will come about, but no wireless connectivity with 3G cards? Someone out there must have the answer??? I mean, what would be the plausible wireless solution, or am I asking too much. If it can work in an IPaq sleeve, why not a Tosh expansion pack.

And no, I don't think you're asking too much. There should be a way to find out how and with what an "official" accessory works.

But as for the auto-dimming--I wouldn't let that be a reason not to get the e550G. Yes, it's annoying at times, but it's a minor annoyance when balanced against the large screen and all the other positives. Also, as you mentioned, it is likely someone will come up with a fix for that, and in the meantime I just plug mine in a charger every chance I get (I keep one at work and one at home, and carry around a power pack too).
