I can get Windows Media to play any MP3 files, regardless of location. But I can not get WM to play any video files.
I have tried to put them on the device and my SD card. Using WM on my desktop (Version 8 WinXP) to transfer to device. Most of the time WM on my PC says it can not transfer to my E310 because it does not support the format. When it does transfer the E310 says that the file is lost, corrupt, or unsupported. I have the WM update on my E310 and have the Toshiba update also.
I am using WM encoder to rip the videos from MPEG to .wma for portable device.
What am I doing wrong? Any help is much appreciated. This is my first PocketPC and I am loving it! Thanks! :D

hmmm i'm really confused. i had no idea that you could convert an mpeg to a wma file. i thought wma's were audio.

see if there is an option to convert mpeg to wmv. windows media will play this file. seeing as you have windows xp, you can always open up windows movie maker and import the video into there and then export it to a wmv file (which is what i do). select one of the options for pocket pc, and you will get decent quality. i can usually get about 40 minutes of video in 60 or 70MB.

since you are using mpegs, you can always try out pockettv at Handango (http://www.handango.com/PlatformProductDetail.jsp?siteId=1&jid=62C7A3E46975DC949FFX7E12E1D71X8D&productId=10565&optionId=1_2_2&productType=2&catalog=30&txtSearch=pockettv&sectionId=0&platformId=2). it's free and plays mpegs.

hope you fix your problem. enjoy the e310!

SOrry for the finger fudge. Yes they are .wmv files.
OK. I even tried WM Encoder 9 and WM9 (Home PC) and successfully transfered a .wmv movie (Matrix Reloaded Teaser :-P) to my SD card. Would not play. So I copied it to the built in memory. Would not play. Here is what I get.
A big red "X" followed by this message:
"Windows Media Player cannot find the file. You man not be connected to the netowrk, the file may have moved, or you may have encountered an inforrect file name or path."

The file plays just fine on my home pc.
Help!!?!!

Thanks!

What happens if you download a wmv from the net and transfer it over via explorer ? :?:

It does the same exact thing.
I just uninstalled WM on my 310 and am going to install 7.1 then the update. Try this from scratch. I will get back to the thread with my findings. Thanks!
