That's a pretty steep discount! I wonder if something new is coming down the pipeline, warranting the clearance...

You Said the code was...

"jasonrocks" (I don't pick these codes)

I happen to believe that it is true!

Thanks for the news on this, I am pretty sold by my Garmin and Teletype but this may be the incentive to move to a single sleeve approach.

You can also go directly to www.travroute.com and get this for $199 from the vondor. They have come up with a new jacket and it looks like they are just trying to get rid of the old ones.

Well, if they're both the same price, only buying through DreamPages supports this site by throwing a few bucks our way, why buy from the vendor? :D

I often wonder if people realize how frustrating it is to have my own readers sabotage my efforts to make a partial living off this site. :?

...it might still be worth getting it from Travroute, because if you get it from them and don't like the Navman sleeve you can apaprently upgrade to the new sleeve (see my website for more detials) coming out next week for $150. I don't know if your affiliate offers that deal.

Just my 2 cents.

I ordered one :D via Pocketpcthoughts.com (I want my kickback :P )

What is difference in the sleeves anyway? They look the same to me except one is round on top and the other is square.

Do you people know the difference?

I think $199 was a good price for GPS or did I get ripped?

BTW - They are out of stock !!! I got the last one sorry guys :P

Ah, no big deal - I'm hypersensitive to this kind of thing by now anyway. But if you're ever wondering, 99% of the time I'll put the word "affiliate" in the post which means it's a money-grubbing post.

Maybe someday the ad revenue from this site will evolve to the point where I don't have to worry about this - wouldn't that be nice? 8)

Did you read the TravRoute Web site (http://www.travroute.com/products/gps/pocketcp3/newjacket.html)? It listed some of the differences. I think the main ones are the ability to add an external antenna if you want and the internal battery. Here is the full list:

* 35% slimmer than other GPS Jackets
* Internal battery guarantees quick GPS fix and solves intermittent power problems present in many other GPS receivers
* Active External Antenna (optional)
o Guarantees outstanding performance even along tree-lined streets, urban canyons and in vehicles with coated windshields
o Allows you to mount your Pocket PC anywhere you like in the vehicle
* Draws half the power of the competition
* Optimal antenna orientation enhances reception both in the car and on foot
* No software drivers required - works with any GPS software
* Processes twice as much GPS data as the competition, updating your position every second.
* Built-in power port - no adapters required for newer iPAQ devices
* Supports IBM microdrives

I don't like the bult-in antenna sticking backward, though. The current NavMan sleeve has a fat, round antenna, but it sticks straight up and seems less likely to get caught on something if you carry it in a holster.

It's a great deal, I think. I got mine for $249 when it first came out, and it listed for $349 until recently.

Well, it will work, but the Pocket CoPilot mapping and trip planning software only works for the U.S., so unless you get different software, you won't be using it to its full potential.

Funny thing, talking to tech support at NAVMAN, they say they also have the internal battery for quick lock and support for IBM microdrives.

They also said they aren't changing or stopping from selling this model.

The external antenna might be cool, but I have one for my garmin that I never use and for the 199 price, $150 bucks isn't work the external option.

They were out out stock by the time I finished checking this unit/deal out (I mean I know it's just $199, but IT'S STILL $199!) and the site is saying they weren't getting anymore I felt safe ordering from the vendor themselves.

Sorry Jason, I would have ordered through your link had it been still been in stock there!

Thanks for all the info all, and DAVENAP don't feel bad about posting the vendor info...it made all the difference between me feeling like I missed the boat on supporting this site and not having one at all.

So when they're talking about "the competition" or "other GPS Jackets" are they referring to the old NavMan jacket vs. the new one?

Well, I was assuming so, since it was what was under "What's New".

Hey wait a minute!!

Everyone wants one of these so badly that no one is asking:

Are these decent GPS receivers.

The new ones have external antenna links, do we need them because the old NAVMAN couldn't receive well in a car (I don't know, I am just asking the question...)?

How is the power useage on a 3970, will it even work with a 3970? The hardware says it does, but is the software x-scale complient?

Does the TravRoute software offer Topographical mapping?

How is the TravRoute software anyways, I mean PCMagazine seems to like it, but they seem to like everyone!

I have been to the site and can't find any map updates, am I looking in the right place?

If I get a 256mb CF card for the NavMan Jacket, will that be enough memory for maps and the software (12megs for just the software, who has an extra 12megs on their iPAQ?).

Am I the only one questioning all of this?
