View Full Version : Do anybody think that USB 2.0 will be on the New iPAQs?

I have upgraded the New Compaq Presario 1500 Series Notebook. I felt it was the best out of all the Presario Notebook because it has two USB 2.0 ports, IEEE 1394 port, and ATI Radeon with 32MB DDR SDRAM. I also have Apple iMac G4 Flat Panel where I sync it with a iPod that uses the Firewire. I feel that syncing files at 480Mbps will be best especially since the iPAQs uses 400MHz Processors. What you think?

First, not all iPAQs use 400 MHz processors. Of the iPAQs currently released, only the 3900 series uses 400 MHz XScale processors; the rest use 206 MHz StrongARM processors.

Second, USB 2.0 appears to be faster, but from what I've read here and seen on Tech TV, Firewire hard disks actually are faster than USB 2.0 hard disks. That makes me glad I got a laptop with Firewire support and have a Firewire 80GB drive. :-)

Finally, I wouldn't count on Pocket PCs using USB 2.0 or Firewire in the near future. :-( I would love it if they'd support Firewire, though....

Steve

P.S. What is happening (or what do you want to happen) in Houston in 2006?

Hello,

I am not so sure about Firewire being that much faster. I have been doing some causual testing....

I have an AcomData 60 Gig 7200RPM Firewire/USB external disk, an Adaptec USB 2.0 cardbus adapter, and a SIIG Firewire cardbus card.

In copying 750 megs...

USB 2.0 3 Minutes 15 seconds
Firewire 3 Minutes 30 seconds..

Of course these tests are just causual, however they are repeatable...

I would love to see USB 2.0 or Firewire in my next PPC. It would definately be a plus in my decision on which one to buy next.

Yeah I never gave it a thought if there was a IEEE 1394 port but a USB 2.0 that is backwards compatible for USB 1.1 ports is a plus factor. Have you seen the pics in the link? A iPAQ with Fingerprint recognition, 128MB SDRAM and GPS!
