<a href="http://www.microsoft.com/mobile/pocketpc/club/default.asp">http://www.microsoft.com/mobile/pocketpc/club/default.asp</a><br /><br />Pocket PC Thoughts isn't the only site undergoing a facelift. Club Pocket PC has a new look as well as tons of new content. Find out how Pocket PC People like Linn Kezer uses her Pocket PC to allow her to keep her timing right while <a href="http://www.microsoft.com/mobile/pocketpc/club/community/ppcpeople.asp">singing the National Anthem</a> at a baseball game, get <a href="http://www.microsoft.com/mobile/pocketpc/club/columns/thingstodo.asp">the lowdown on backing up your Pocket PC</a>, or learn how to simply <a href="http://www.microsoft.com/mobile/pocketpc/club/support/support_question.asp?cid=0&tid=6&qid=9">change "My Text"</a> in Messenger or Inbox. That just barely scratches the surface too!<br /><br />While you're there, don't forget to <a href="http://www.microsoft.com/mobile/newsevents/news/newsletters.asp">subscribe to the Pocket Watch newsletter</a>.

Poor Club Pocket PC, it never seems to be able to find it's niche :\

I'd have to agree. It's a poor man's community site when compared to the likes of Pocket PC Thoughts.

Indeed, you could even say that it's not much more than an MS propoganda machine, which now appears to double up as a support centre. And as far as propoganda machines go, I don't really rate it, either. You might not find any negative articles there, but then I don't remember seeing too much cool stuff there to make up for it.

Overall, I think that it's a wasted opportunity that reflects a lack of clear focus and planning.

I don't think it is really meant to be a community site. It is a place for MS to give information on the PPC in a way that can reach normal people, not the cryptic techno way the Knowledge Base works. And the solutions provided are made up of questions that are asked daily in the .pocketpc.* newsgroups.

It also has a feedback link that works. I happen to know some of the people that read the other side of it.

the site is great, it has 99% of the questions i answer in the newsgroups (for you pro-users, this ain't for you).

i answered this one 10 times last week:
http://www.microsoft.com/mobile/pocketpc/club/support/support_question.asp?cid=0&tid=16&qid=15

nice work microsoft! it's only been live one day, so there's more stuff coming too from what i've heard.

Poor Club Pocket PC, it never seems to be able to find it's niche :\

for the first time, there's one place with all the support / step by step help for new users. most people need that, for you pro-users sites like this is the way to go (microsoft does do things to help communities sites as well) it's a part of a bigger picture.

I'd have to agree. It's a poor man's community site when compared to the likes of Pocket PC Thoughts.

microsoft wants sites like pocketpcthoughts to keep doing great, the club pocket pc site is post-purchase support. ms helps sites like thoughts all the time, it's all part of a very cool ecosystem.

check out the support section there are literally 100's of step by steps.

i answer a jillion questions in the newsgroups, now i can link to these.

cheers,

I still think I got royally ripped off sending MS money for Club Pocket PC. Didn't get a whole heck of a lot out of what? 30 buck? 40 bucks? Can't remember anymore how much I spent on the premium option. A nice multifunction pen/stylus, a couple of window decals, a shirt, a cute little members card, a free copy of Handbase later that year, and a funky PDA/accessories case that has fallen apart on me. :?
Dat'll be the last time I do that. Fool me once...fool me twice.

We charter members who paid received HandDBase (which I use quite often and even the upgrade to 3.0 was free as a result), a T-shirt, a nice Christmas gift last year of a multi-function case, and a nice 4-way metal pen/stylus which I still use to this day. I think the membership was pretty cheap $25 or something so we basically paid for HandDBase and got the rest for free. Beth admitted at our last PSHUG meeting that things didn't work out the way she wanted it to, but she put a lot of effort into it and had very good intentions.

I think the new site is great, especially the way they have access to the help files. I agree with pt that you can now send 90% of the questions from the newsgroup over to the site and feel confident it will be answered.

For those of you who are charter members, get ready to receive a surprise from Beth in the mail that she designed herself. It is pretty cool and a nice way for her to say thank to us for going through the growing pains together.

Because of the pocketpc club I get PocketWatch. In the last (october 7) issue it said:

SERVICE PACK FOR POCKET PC RELEASED

Microsoft continually works to improve its Pocket PC software. As part of this effort, we develop updates and fixes to recognized issues and release them for our customers. Because of the differences in hardware designs in Pocket PCs, we release our updates only to our partners who then, in turn, release a device specific update to their users. The latest update has been released by Microsoft and will be available shortly from device manufacturers. Please be sure to contact your vendor for specific timing.

I didn't read that somewhere else

Does anyone got any insight about that from the Club PPC website? I wonder if HPAQ is gearing up for another ROM upgrade fiasco like the 3800?
Seriously, does anyone know what this addresses? Readable ClearType?, XScale Optimizations? Smart Minimize/Close, Smart Memory management before the PPC comes to a crawl! :?

BTW, Great Revamp of the site
