http://www.pocketgps.co.uk/tomtomnavcreview.asp

Dave Burrows and his team at PocketGPS.co.uk has reviewed the full TomTom Navigator. They look at the quality of the maps, the usability of the software, and the quality of the provided hardware. Do they like what they see?

You bet! "TomTom Navigator is a dream to work with. The hardware has been thought out to the nth degree, everything is included except for the kitchen sink! The software is greatly improving upon the previous Trips and City Maps, bringing together TomTom's knowledge they've gained over the years and is a dream to use, giving you more time to concentrate on the road rather than fiddling with the Pocket PC. TomTom really have produced a superb GPS hardware and software bundle in what can only be classed as a first class product! Pocket GPS would like to award TomTom Navigator the Pocket GPS Gold Award."

The last time I checked the TOM TOM stuff and in particular the maps were all UK. Anyone know if this has changed? The article sure sounds impressive, but not sure how well it would work in Canada or US. (I am in Canada). Anyone have any North America comments?

Too bad...TomTom does look cool. But I haven't heard anything about maps being available for the 50 states or cananda.

Dontcha hate it when reviewers never tell you how they REALLY feel about a product?

Berzins, the maps are europe based (eg no America's at present), they come in country form, so if you wanted multiple country maps, you would need to purchase multiple product maps.

Karen, we did tell you how we REALLY felt and also listed all the problems we found and have been very honest! :D TomTom does have some flaws, and you'll see that in some of our other articles, like the TomTom MIA article and the MAP Comparisons. No product is 100% perfect, otherwise there would be no need for future updates, however TomTom when compared to the current level of packages really did excel above the rest.

We're now currently actively testing Navman's latest offering SmartST Pro, so it will be interesting to see how this pans out.

Dave Burrows
