Source: Orion.

Update: There are more pics at MicrosoftMobiles.com of the iPAQ 5000 that explains which device is which. The 802.11b model is no problem for me, but I am not sure the CDMA/GSM versions will fit in my mobile pants unless that antenna is retractable. Source for additional links: JPZR.

Integrated GPS sounds nice, but without some sort of integrated wireless conectivity there doesn't seem much point. Hopefully Tosh is watching and will soon annouce a successor to the e740 with bluetooth, wi-fi and GPD :D

I wonder if that's accurate - the 1XRTT model doesn't have the biometric security, and the rest do. Seems a bit odd...

I have a feeling that there are a few more options than what we are seeing.

The key features that can be sold as parts of various packages will be:
GSM/GPRS or CDMA (and it's "highspeed" data),
Biometric scanner,
Bluetooth, WiFi, or GPS,
64 or 128 MB RAM.

I believe that they will market devices with a selection of these features. So a consumer could buy a GSM, BioScan, Bluetooth, 128 iPaq, or a CDMA, WiFi, 64 MB unit, etc.

So there are 3*2*4*2 or 48 options.

Probably not, but it is fun to imagine.

I hope users won't have to give up WiFi and BT to get GPRS/GSM functionality.

I've got to laugh at all the people who suggested that the earlier posts where only prototypes. It looks more and more like the real thing. Damned ugly. Obviously not enough of the Jornada survived the merger.

Great innards - shame about the face.

It really doesn't look like the antennae are retractable. I wonder how easily they break.

i always want to ask this. why they always build handphone with the antenna protruded or bulging outward ? why handphone like Nokia can produce a working and nice handphone without the protruded antenna ?

this is why i love my Nokia handphone and hate Motorolla !

This looks great to me. Now if only Sprint PCS can straighten out their high speed CDMA network, I'll be happy ...

Hopefully cheaper than that $800 Toshiba PPC Phone, too. :D

OK, seriously, can anyone tell me they are actually going to, rather than just use a password, buy a pocketpc with a biometric scanner?

I mean, how many of you have biometric scanners on your PC?

That being said, these pics do look a lot nicer than the Brighthand one (amazing what a little molding can do) but I still think the thing is ugly.

Well, that's how it looked at the time.

i've lost my ppc phone editon once! you know thats the most disastrous event ever, lost my phone, lost my pda, lost all my software, lost all my critical data..... but i think back that my faithfull nokia 7650 is still better than the ppc phone edition, baterry last longer can take picture and a lot better signal. when my pda battery finish, at least i still can save new girlfrend contact in it hehehheh another pda with phone integrated ? no thanks i prefer pda with wifi instead !

I am worried. I want to get a new PPC and *was* interested in this. I want to get a version with 802.11b and Bluetooth (none of that mobile phone crap, I barely use the wired phone at home, and service is so overpriced in the US), 128MB of RAM, and no biometric security. Seriously, who NEEDS that thing? I can only imagine how expensive it must be. I can see some people who might keep sensitive data on the device, but other than that, do normal people need or want that? I don't, because I don't wanna pay for it! But it seems the 802.11b and BT version has it. I hope those aren't the only models. I'd really like Wi-Fi, 128MB of RAM, and no biometrics. Of course, if they don't want to raise the price $100 for a model with biometrics, then of course I'll take it, but the thing sounds very expensive. At least $850-$900. Way too much.

I also don't care much for the biometric thingie. What I need safe, I have encrypted well enough.

I wasnt 128, CDMA and BT. I would love to have GPS built in also, but if not, I'll get a BT GPS unit :)

Anyway, looks like a great device. 128 Mb built in will rock after my 32Mb iPaq!

(Im just holding to upgrade when something reaaally worth it is available, and this new generation looks like it)

do the new ipaq 5000 have a cf slot? or are they still sticking with the sleeve bit?

No CF slot in sight...SD only.
