Well, you don't need to bother buying it. You can buy 100 shares of Microsoft and get one share of Palm FREE!. Or you could buy 15 shares of Disney and get a share of Palm free. You could buy 10 shares of Handspring, get a free Palm share and still have enough left over from a $20 bill to take your significant other to a movie tonight. Have a great weekend all!

<!>
You know, in all seriousness, I really feel sorry for the employees. The ones that have been with the company for years, were given options and the ability to buy in at the ground floor of one of the most hyped IPOs in history, and now they have nothing. Sigh....

Hey, you might want to get yours now! That way you can tell you grandchildren "I remeber when..." and these things will probably be collectors items
As far as the employees go, I agree it sucks, but the stockmarket is a gamble for everybody, and they did have some control over what happened in their own company after all.
And if they didn't feel they could keep Palm going the way they thought it should, then they always had the option to sell.
But to borrow an expression, "Just my opinion, I could always be wrong"

How many Avantgo stocks do you need to buy to get one free Palm stock? :D

Crap, so you are telling me it wasn't a good idea to buy a 1,000 shares of Palm today? Why didn't someone tell me this!

*mouth hangs open for a second* 8O that....that's...umm. What is there to really to say about this. I can't really laugh at this. This is pitiful. I too feel very sorry for the employee's of Palm. I seriously wonder what the employee's think when the big wigs at Palm release some of their famous spin. They have to be shaking their collective head.
Or how about the mandatory pep talks most big businesses give to their employee's. What kind of pep could you possibly give?!?!
I really wonder how close they are to being sold or bought by someone else.
:D Hmmm Sony....

One share a MSFT at a low price and one share of PALM for exactly what it is worth - NOTHING! :D

Boy the anti-Palm FUD sure does get deep here. As of right now, there are five stories making some negative reference to Palm on the home page. Anyone want to guess how many of these news items were posted by Ed?

Oh come on now, you have to admit this is pretty funny, even for Palm. Having a share of your stock given away as a freebie? That's not FUD, it's just plain amusing.
But like Ed said, I do feel for the employees - I don't think anywhere here (myself included) wishes for PalmSource to go out of business. I think MS needs competition, but seeing Palm taken down a few notches would suit me just fine. :D

OK, allow me to lighten up a bit...
Palm has been giving away stuff for quite a while. Thanks to the lousy economy and their decreasingly-interesting (compared to fellow Palm OS licensees, not just alternative OS PDAs) hardware, they've semi-frequently given away handhelds, software, SD cards, etc. MS has done pretty much the same (short of the buy one PDA, get one free promotion - though their PDAs are too highly priced to make that viable). I sure hope the economy picks up and we can start seeing some more innovations from someone, anyone. Let's face it, if nothing else, the false dot-com boom brought about a lot of attention/money/development to all things geeky. Now that most of those companies have gone bust, the hardware and innovation is coming at a slower pace.
Sorry to sound so down. I'm a developer who is confident in my skills but not confident in my future. I once thought that being a programmer was about the safest job one could have, but that doesn't seem to be the case these days. The company I left last year (and my wife still works for) is moving towards off-shore consulting and the company I work for now is "thinking about it." I'm not opposed to the idea that my industry might have been making more than we're worth, but the state of affairs right now is just ugly and unfair, IMHO. Sorry for the rant...

ok you complain about people putting nonsensical news item, but you yourself post way nonsensical rant that has nothing to do with the thread whatsoever?
well at least you are not continuing on to war, terrorism, religion, true meaning of life, and how unfair the universe is.
The irony of irony.

Oh you have no idea. :shocked!: If PalmSource were to start to go under I'd have to kick in personal money to prevent it. My Pocket PC would be so.... empty without a Peanut Press/Palm Digital Media ebook on it!

Darn near 100% I think.
Come Scott - this was a relatively slow week in PDA news except for a bunch of market share data. I picked up on some comments by Michael Mace that, as it turns out, had some misquotes it and he cleared it up. I then took the shallow reporting done on the IDC data and told the truth about it. On top of it all though, this image was just too funny to pass up. A share of Microsoft being sold as a product to drive you to their site to by some shares with a share of Palm underneath it given away for free. The symbolism... reminds me of that shot in Times Square last year with "You are the Weakest Link" on top and the Palm logo below it.
Lighten up. We have fun at this site. Lots of fun.
Don't Panic!

I'm glad the PALM bashing is starting up here again. It's a sure sign that the stock will go up! Gotta buy some more.
Don't Panic!

I wonder how much it cost to PRINT the Palm stock vs. the price at which it's sold.

hehe....yes the "truth". I think the IDC report WAS your reason for going after Palm so hard this week. It's probably because the actual truth hurts (the last year hasn't been so kind to PPC sales).
I'm beginning to think less and less your work here has anything to do with fun.
