But if new tests establish a risk to aircraft systems from UWD devices then use of all laptops and PDAs could be prohibited during flight. A blanket ban is necessary because aircrews could not be expected to know the difference between existing laptops and those equipped with ultra-wideband radio equipment, a spokesman told The Times.

This would completely and totally suck - what ELSE are you supposed to do on a plane other than work? :lol: I often read, but not being able to use my Pocket PC to listen to music would kill me - listening a baby cry or someone else snore for five hours is my idea of hell. :evil:

That's the government for you, let's ban something we're not quite sure is harmful or will definitely not exist for several years.

how could you test something if it doesn't exist?

I found a reference to this on WideBandPlanet and posted it in the Wireless threads. It has a bit more detail: like that you have to remodulate the UWB signals and boost the power to 100 times the recommended level. :roll:
