hello all

I bought an ipaq h3800 series from my friend, which was very expensive. I lost my wallet which contained the password to the ipaq. I cannot get into it because it is password protected. I cant get in touch with my friend, he has moved out of the country and his phone number was also in the wallet. How can i get rid of the password and restore it back to its original state? Do i need a CF restore card? Please can you help me. Thanks

all i can think of is a hard reset :(

but if you hard reset that means you lose all the data on the ipaq.

if you ever sync your ipaq, won't the contacts and info be on your desktop computer?

Unfortunately, you've tripped up every security measure possible, so a hard reset is the only option. Pretend your somebody that stole that iPAQ and you'll see why having that as your only option is a good defense for your data.

thanks you for replying, if i try a hard reset then would i lose all the programs on the ipaq or only saved data?

You'll lose everything EXCEPT whatever the iPAQ saved to Flash ROM - by default, this is usually Contacts.

You need to install them via the PC again - download, connect, sync. Do you have the iPAQ manual? It would explain much of this. :D

Your friend sold you a PocketPC with no manual or cradle? A PocketPC is nearly useless without some sort of a connection to a desktop. Sounds like you should call your friend and get the rest of your stuff, or put the IPaq back in the lost and found.

my friend said he lost the box, i dont know him very well. i think he is bull****tin, he must of got the ipaq stolen or something. i should not of even bought it off him. the ipaq is useless, i dont have any cables, i dont even have a charger! If i do get the cables i have to download the main software from my pc to the ipaq right? or do i need an internet connection on the ipaq?

Sounds like somebody is selling you a stolen IPaq. A charger is a vital component, and a Ipaq is never sold without it. This conditions however is solving itself, since your battery-life is 300h max, and when the Ipaq is empty, it erases all contained in ROM (=hard reset). I would get my money back from your "friend", or better: report him to the police.
