Hi

My xda and ActiveSync 3.5 keeps dialling the internet every time i connect using the cradle.

It's driving me mad :x ...how do I stop it. I've tried changing options to manual sync but it still does it.

Hope someone can help

Do you have Avantgo running? It's probably just trying to connect to the internet to download your pages.

What version of Internet Explorer do you have? This was a known issue with earlier versions (4.x)

Whenever I start an ActiveSync connection over my wireless LAN, my e740 makes a DNS query for "PPP_PEER". I use a shared dial-up connection via a 3Com 56K LAN Modem (http://www.3com.com/products/en_US/detail.jsp?tab=features&pathtype=purchase&sku=3C886A-US), and if no connection is already established, the modem dials out at that instant. I don't know if syncing via the cradle would do the same thing or not, but if so, that could explain the problem.

If you think it's a DNS query doing it, you might try installing pocket hosts (http://www.zimac.de/) (which should set PPP_PEER automatically.)

I think the DNS query is why I've never had to specify my PC's IP address as the WINS server on my Pocket PC 2002 devices. I'm always reading about people having to do that, yet ActiveSync works perfectly for me without having to jump through any of those hoops. My theory is that the PPC2K2 OS can resolve hostnames on the same network segment. Perhaps if your PC were on a larger network that's segmented off, then you'd need to specify the IP as the WINS server. (Unless, of course, you actually have a WINS server on your network, in which case, I don't think that'd be necessay.) This is all speculation, however.

hmmmm....

we seem to have gone a little off the original query here.

I am using IE6 on my pc, PC2002 on my xda and I have the Avantgo option deselected in my Activesync options.

Any one help me out?
