Hi
It is me or does the PPC phone crash alot. Mostly when using the phone feature. I have managed to allocate alot of memory to the programs. but alot of times when the phone feature is in use my ppc gets very slow and sometimes crashes or just plainly crashes. Usually I end up soft resetting. This happens alot.
Also, I can't get my phone to charge sometimes, I'd have to switch the plug to another outlet several times and remove and replace the ppc in the cradle alot before I get it to charge.
Am I the only one experiencing these problems or should I call T·mobile and get a new phone right away?

Well, my phone hasn't crashed too much, but I have noticed even with no programs running I'm using a lot of memory (7 or 8 mb vs. 5 mb on a Jornada 568 right after soft reset).

My "crashed" a lot for the first few days I used it but I've managed to find ways around this. A friend bought one the same day as me and he has had the same experience. Basically it doesn't crash or lock-up but becomes so slow that it appears to have locked-up. Sometimes I would have to wait several minutes (10-20) before the phone would repsond again even though I could close windows and do regular pocketPC stuff underneath the phone dialogs. Of course, this make the device useless.
Even worse is when someone will call and the phone just keeps ringing in a sort of locek-up mode - a soft reset is the only way to stop it from an endless loop of ringing.
Each morning and sometimes during the day I will soft reset it and this seems to help a lot. I also installed a 128MB SD card and keep nothing extra loaded in main system RAM.

Hmmm... seems like this phone is slightly problematic. I really hated it when the phone locks up when someone is calling and there's nothing you can do about it.
Anyone have the charging problem?

I've had the T-Mobile XDA for just over a week. I wasn't sure if I was a one device or two device person, but I have discovered that I LOVE THIS PHONE! In retrospect I previously carried both my iPaq and my Samsung 8500 with me everywhere, so having their respective functions integrated has resulted in a smaller combined package for me. The whole thing slips neatly into my pocket and the talk time is twice as long as the 8500's was.
Even some of the least tech. savvy people I know drool over the slick integration of the PDA and phone. All the Palm users love the CE Transcriber for entering appointments. I personally love having AvantGo & Mazingo's content in my pocket.
But I have had problems that prevent me from recommending this device to anybody except the most die-hard geeks among my friends. These problems are items 1, 2, and 3 in my list below. They all appear to require easy software fixes. If O2 and Microsoft get their act together quickly and fix these fatal flaws, then this will be the killer device!
1. PDA & phone lock up when T-Mobile notification bubble pops up. Particularly when the user doesn't press the hide button before the phone tries to display a second service notification. This most frequently happens in areas where the signal is spotty, such as riding a train through or tunnel during the morning commute a soft reset immediately restores the phone and PDA. Waiting 10 minutes also restores the functions.
2. Phone locks up. The only indication that this happens is that the phone claims to have no signal (GSM light not flashing) but you know you’re in an area that is usually covered. When this happens you get no incoming Calls or SMS messages. Turning the phone off and back on using the end Call button restores the phone.
3. There is no hardware back button; this is most important in the dialer application. Imagine you are driving a Car, you press the green talk button to bring up the dialer application, but then you press the scroll right instead of Scroll left like you intended. You are left Staring at the recent calls when you wanted the speed dial list; and the only way to get back is to try and press the tiny ok button in the upper right. A difficult task without the stylus. At a minimum the red end call button should always take you to the dialer's home screen.
I've also listed these annoying issues 4 to 7 in the hopes someone will fix them. Alas, the most annoying of all #4 looks like it can only be fixed by a ROM update.
4. There is no way to turn of the T-Mobile service/no service notification bubbles these bubbles are disruptive if you are in an area with spotty Coverage and you are working with the PDA. Ideally ''phone Service Notifications" would be listed in the Sounds & Notifications applet.
5. An integrated see through flip screen cover makes the device friendlier. The cover is essential to disable the touch screen while the device is not In use - in your pocket purse or briefcase - where it is likely to get bumped and tapped immediately after it turns itself on for a reminder or an incoming call. In my experience such accidental tapping always results in important data being lost. The clear cover makes it easier to view incoming caller id and reminder information, as well as easier to quickly place outgoing calls with the hardware buttons. The integrated cover is nice because it automatically protects the screen when you lift the device up to your face to speak on the phone.
6. It would be nice if there were more hardware buttons. Since we can't add buttons to existing devices, it'd be swell if we could re-map the volume and begin call buttons. For example press and hold of the begin call button while a call is not active could launch a third party voice dialer.
7. Another nice to have: unique ring tones that are linked to caller id - even when you don't have a free hand to pick up the phone and look, it's always good to know when your wife is calling! :-)

I am able to map the call and hang up buttons to functions in Pocket GB, so I'm convinced that sooner or later they'll be a utility allowing remapping of these buttons elsewhere.
