<a href="http://www.pocketmindmap.com/">http://www.pocketmindmap.com/</a><br /><br />When I get a new device or have to do a hard reset, there are a handful of apps I have that get installed immediately. <a href="http://www.laridian.com/ce/default.asp">Pocket Bible</a>, <a href="http://www.iliumsoft.com/listproc.htm">ListPro</a>, <a href="http://www.iliumsoft.com/wallet.htm">eWallet</a> and <a href="http://www.fitaly.com/wince/pocketpcfitaly.htm">FITALY</a> are at the top of the list. Pocket Mindmap is also right up there. It is the killer note taker for me allowing me to take freeform notes that are impossible with Word, pen and paper or any other method I've seen.<br /><br /><img src="http://www.pocketpcthoughts.com/images/hansberry/2002/20020813-pocketmindmap.gif" /><br /><br />I also use it for preliminary project planning and even for managing a full project if it is too small to fool with Microsoft Project. You can export the mindmap as a .BMP file to share with those that don't have Pocket Mindmap. You can also export the outline as an HTML file. With a plugin that is currently in beta, you can synchronize with Mindjet's MindManager software. There is a <a href="http://www.pocketmindmap.com/Docs/PMM_EN/tour1.ASP">complete visual tour here</a>. Pocket Mindmap is one of those software packages that once you learn the power of, you simply cannot do without. It is also a <i><b>fantastic</b></i> showcase of the power of the Pocket PC platform.<br /><br />They have a 30 day full featured trial or you can buy it for $42 from <a href="http://www.handango.com/PlatformProductDetail.jsp?siteId=311&platformId=2&productType=2&catalog=0&sectionId=0&productId=16716">this Handango affiliate link</a>. I agree with you, Ed. Pocket Mindmap is on my list of indespensible PPC applications as well. Once you come to depend on it, you can't live without it. Anyone who ever has need to organize ideas or information or to brainstorm for creative tasks can make great use of this program. My others are also similar to your: eWallet, Listpro, Fitaly and City Time.

Now, this looks amazing. This is somethat not only does a job, but changes the whole way one interacts with a computer. I don't even know of anything on the desktop that attempts to so completely meld how our mind works with how a computer works.
I suppose one would have to use it for a while before really getting into it, but wow, just WOW.

I've been using PocketMindMap for a little over a year now and after a hard reset it is the first thing I Install after WordLogic Keyboard (with Dutch and English language files) and Pocket Informant :-)
It trully is great, now only hoping that the desktop conversion program will go into Beta 2 finally this week-end....
Hi,
I currently use Midndjet's MindManager Mobile Edition for Pocket PC.... What a name!
The main issue I have with it is that it can't display/pan around a standard mindmap - it only has an overview of the main branches and then drops down into heirarchical lists..
It is nice that when you edit the mindmaps it automatically syncronizes with the full application on my PC (MindManager 2002 Enterprise Edition).
Having spent $$ on this version, I'd need a very good reason to change.

PJE

If you go and try software and decide to buy it, come back here and click through the affiliate links!
Ed (et al): Is there a place where you can list the software you've mentioned with the affiliate link? I was just thinking that if I decided to purchase this software say, in 3 months, I might have difficulty finding this link. Also, it would be a good place to start anytime I wanted to pick up some new software.
To everyone: Regarding Pocket Mindmap, this is one of those programs that I think I could get some use out of, but I'm not certain how exactly. What does everyone else use this program for? I'm trying to get an idea of how this would help me. Any sample maps you wish to share?
Thanks.

Mindmap appears to be a really interesting app.
It's one of those that I'm almost afraid to try out because it looks to be REALLY USEFUL and gets so many good reviews by users but it's $42!!!
That means you demo the software, get hooked, then have to shell out the dough. I'm ALWAYS working on a project and if it were a bit cheaper, I'd demo it in a heartbeat but I really don't want to get hooked on such an expensive application. That's the same reason I never tried cocaine. Too addictive and expensive for those who get hooked! 8)

Two things here:
1) We've organized it by type, so this is categorized as SOFTWARE - if you ever want to come back and browse again, just go into FORUMS then FRONT-PAGE POSTINGS then SOFTWARE, and browse by subject title.
2) If you want to, you can create your own affiliate link for us to Handango:
http://www.handango.com/PlatformProductDetail.jsp?siteId=311&platformId=2&productType=2&catalog=0&sectionId=0&productId=xxxxx
The "XXXXX" is the product ID number which is found in every Handango URL.
As always, I appreciate your support. :D

i create my powerpoint presentation flow with it and then use the bitmap export as my first slide to show people where i'm going to go.
before most meetings i think through what i want to say or have happen with this software. it makes brainstorming with yourself cake.
i keep my list of current projects in a mind map. add and subtract at will - hyperlink to more detailed word documents when needed.
this software uses more of the full pocketpc os capability than anything else i've tried or purchased including the native software. they are coming very close to sync with desktop version of mindmanager. on their site people were debating the pros and cons of the mindmanagers pocketpc software with the conclusion that pocketmindmap was better.

Jason: Am I correct in thinking that this will work for any software available at Handango? I would just have to find the Product ID and then enter the URL above then? Cool...
You might want to think about adding that permanently to the Software page or something.

Download and try Pocket Mindmap. 30 days free. You can see for yourself if it is worth the $42 over what you have paid. If you have the desktop MindManager Pro or Enterprise version, you can also sync with PMM. The sync tool doesn't work with the basic version of MindManager.

This program has been intriguing me from the outset of my adventures in the Pocket PC arena; but I think, like many, the pricetag scared me into looking for other solutions...
I am curious and would like feedback as to whether it is overkill to use this for project planning, particularly if the project milestones are already set and you simply need to track them and add details to the plan.
The outline view of Mindmap seemed to fit the bill for this, but I felt that the map aspect was not as useful, as I felt that I needed a heirarchical plan rather than a map.
To that end, I've defaulted to ListPro for basic project planning, but would revisit Mindmap if someone could offer a practical example of how Mindmap can be applied to overall project planning...
Alternatively (or additionally) is there a good resource for guidance in applying mindmapping to project management?
I think the basic question(s) for me are:
Do you all use Mindmap in the outset of planning a project, and is it overkill for projects with plans already in place and simply requiring tasks to be filled under the milestones?
Does Mindmap carry through well for all phases of project management? Are there areas of project management where you apply Mindmap more or where it is better suited/less well suited?
Sorry to ramble, hopefully the question(s) make sense... :?
Thanks.

I love Pocket MindMap, but if your purpose is project management, you should look at CyStat, CyProj and CyAct from http://www.cywren.com/
CyProj will sync with Project 2000 files.

It would be great to see some of these independent's get together and offer an semi-integrated suite.
eWallet, Fitaly, PocketInformant, WisBar, DexPlorer, Journal Pro, PocketMap, etc...
Just imagine what the PC would be like if Lotus 1-2-3, WordPerfect, Quicken, Eudora Plus, and others would have cooperated against the Microsoft Juggernaut. Can you imagine the suite that would be possible? It would put Office to shame.
Similarly, I see Developer One putting together a large portfolio of largely tier 2 applications. It would be great to plop down $70 and get all of the "best of breed" apps that have been tweaked to work with one another.

Hey thanks, this is more what we could start using right away, but the combined price for all 3, ugh, I'd need to get my boss to reimburse.
But then again Pocket MindMap looks like it could be more useful on a personal level...

Thundercat33,
Check out the books on Mindmapping by Tony or Barry Buzan - they developed the technique and coined the phrase (formalised might be better than developed - I was doodling a similar thing for years before I came across the term).
They give examples of how to use it for project management.

That's how I felt when I first found Mind Manager on the desktop. Then when I saw Pocket Mind Map, I couldn't believe how powerful it was, and that was in a 1.0 version. It still holds the record in my book for best ever 1.0 application for the PPC. If you want to check out desktop options, here are a few to try.
Mind Manager is very popular and an excellent product. The Pocket Mind Map folks are just about to release the beta 2 of their desktop companion, which they said will provide complete round-trip capability between PMM and Mind Manager. Once that's achieved, then PMM and MM will be a strong combination. http://www.mindjet.com/
Ygnius is another popular one that lots of people say they like better than Mind Manager, though both have their own strengths and weaknesses. I haven't used it myself (though I've just downloaded the demo), but one real strength for PPC users is that they've built-in compatibilty with Pocket Mind Map. Folks on the PMM forums say it works very well. http://www.ygnius.com/

Of course it really depends on what your needs are, but Pocket Mind Map is much better on the map view than is Mobile Mind Manager, though I think MMM is a bit stronger that PMM on the outline view. I've written a comparison that you might find interesting in the previous thread about MMM (http://www.pocketpcthoughts.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=2840).
On syncronization, I'd say that MMM is just about as good as the current PMM companion, but the latter is just in beta 1 right now. Any time now ('next weekend', they've said for a few weeks), the PMM folks will release the beta 2 companion and I expect that to be far and away better than the MMM sync.
If you are a casual user or you are primarily interested in outline mode, then you're probably just as well off to live with the investment you've already made. But if you're a heavy user, you really should consider giving PMM a try with their free trial version. In the end, it's more about productivity than about saving a few dollars here and there.

I like the concept of this product. Whenever I use my PDA I work with documents (stored in several folders, 'cause they might belong to different projects), sheets (maybe in another folder), contacts, appointments and tasks. The only chance to get an overview is to know where everything is. And man, how often do I make something twice just because I forgot I already did it. And how often do I have to switch between programs... So, this program seems to be the "missing link".
Right, it's a shame that MS does not understand that we need something like that. If there were more competitors on the scene, we would see more development that suit the user and not the producer.
I would really enjoy seeing products like MindMap, WordLogic, PocketInformant, ClearView and some more being bundled as a kind of a "PPC 2002 productivity suite" at a more attractive price though.
