1. Does anyone have any good experience using them?
2. Can you recommend a manufacturer?
3. Can you use them with your regular ISP?
TIA

I use a Hawking CF690V (http://www.hawkingtech.com/products/cf690v.htm) modem from Hawking Technologies. It's physically identical to Socket's CF 56K modem (http://www.socketcom.com/product/56k.htm). Targus also sells a slick one with a pop-out phone jack (http://www.targus.com/product_details.asp?sku=PA560U). It's very thin and compact. I would have bought the Targus except for the fact that I got the Hawking from a clearance rack for less than half the cost. None of these modems require any special drivers under Pocket PC 2002 -- all required support is included in the OS.
You can use any ISP that you can connect to using Dial-Up Networking on your PC. Proprietary services such as AOHell probaly won't work. Setting the modem up is nowhere near as simple on the Pocket PC as on a PC, thanks in large part to the "Connection Mangler." Oh, I mean "Manager." Some trial and error, though, will get you there eventually.
Oh, for the day when wireless networking is more widespread...

Decius, are you saying that you've been able to use your CF modem with your e740? If so, how did you get the ppc to recognize it? Any help would be GREATLY appreciated.

I've been using Casio's JK-711MC56 CF Modem. Plugged it in and was up and running in 5 mins. The best way I've found to use the Connection Manager is to go to the Internet setting and select new and start with a new name and then everything default should work, except maybe the option under proxy for "This network connects to the Internet" this might need to be checked.
