Ok, so here's the deal. I'm looking to upgrade from my 19" Sony G400 CRT (tired of looking at that f*cking distorted display), and was thinking of moving over to an LCD. But here is my problem; I run my 19" CRT at 1152x864 resolution, which feels more natural to me. 1280x1024 just seems too small (icons, text, GUI environment) on that sized CRT monitor. So I'm guessing that a 17" LCD is out of the question since it is roughly equivalent to a 19" CRT. So, is the 18" LCD my best choice, or do I have to go even larger, to say...a 19"? :?

It's strange, but on my 19" CRT I would run at 1152 x 864 as well, and I thought 1280 x 1024 would be too small on my 17" LCDs, but it's not. I'm totally comfortable at the resolution - everything is so much more CRISP. No complaints from me!

Hmm...I'll have to check out a 17" and see if I like it. My other problem is that I am a gamer, so I doubt an LCD will work well for that purpose due to the relatively slow pixel response. I may have to use the LCD as my primary display for web, graphics, and general purpose stuff, and just use the CRT for games and DVD movies.

Check out the latest issue of Maximum PC - they have a big shoot-out among 17" and 18" LCDs - and they're better for gaming than you think. I play RTS and RPG games on mine have no problems at all (FPS are the games are the real challenge, but the Maximum PC boys didn't mind the LCD monitors at all for FPS games).

PS - Ever notice all your posts are "Yeah, but..." in tone? You never believe anyone.

Yea LCD are quite nice, But a hard choice to make.

Its tough to spend 700-800 on a LCD monitor, when a 19" CRT costs 1/2 to a quarter of that.

Still looking for a good one myself.
