Is there a way to pick up AOL email on my wireless connected PPC ?

For the original Pocket PC, AOL had an app where you could both ckeck your mail and send/receive IMs, but for some reason decided to not support Pocket PC 2002. I guess that's because MSN Messenger is already integrated.

Oh, and I can't get Pocket IE to load up the Aol webmail page either...

Not any more. AOL had a client, they killed it. Better email them and ask why they did that...

Actually, if you have another way to connect to the internet, you can at least retrieve your AOL mail. The AOL mail app, which I think is still available for download, will work with PPC2k2, if you use "TCP/IP Lan Connection" for location.
