Ok my setup.. I have 2 PC's (Redroom and Office) hardwired to a Netgear gateway/router that is connected to cable internet.

1 PC, (office) also has a D-Link DWL-520+ in it (wireless NIC).

My Ipaq 3835 has a D-Link DCF-650W wireless CF card.

I can synch with Office from the PDA, I can browse shared folders on Office from the PDA, so the connection is there.

However, if I try to browse the internet from my PDA I get "page not found" If I hook up to USB to office, I can browse.

In settings/connections/ I have network card connects to `work' and Work has VPN tab directed to the IP of OFFICE as the server.

I have talked with Compaq and D-Link and they both are no help

Next question.. REDROOM, the other computer on my LAN is the mp3 server. I want to be able to get to those files from my PDA wireless.. It seems to me there must be a way to do this without going to a wireless router. I have tried to bridge the wireless network with the LAN network using Windows XP, but then I cannot even connect to OFFICE. I changed the IP address of the VPN server to that of the bridge, but alas no help.

All help greatly appreciated.

...so you have an ad hoc connection from your PDA to the Office Computer? I'm not sure that you could then surf from that connection.

It sounds to me like it's time for you to purchase a wireless access point, then hook it to the Netgear. The AP could then be the bridge to the Netgear.

Best Buy can be really stupid. They somehow think they are soo cool cause they work in Best Buy.

The guy didn't beleive me when I told him Compaq's warranty was CHEAPER and BETTER than Best Buy's. Compaq gave me free shipping both ways, and free repairs. Best Buy's warranty sucks, you have to take it in and then they tell you that you need to pay $xx.xx to fix this.

We have tried several different wireless access points and they are all pretty much inter-operable. Look in other fora for comments about range and speed.

One other thing that I have found helpful and that speeds up several operations is to configure the home network with static IP addresses, rather than dynamic. Also manually config the DNS addresses- use the one that your ISP provides.

Ok my setup.. I have 2 PC's (Redroom and Office) hardwired to a Netgear gateway/router that is connected to cable internet.

What you have are two distinct networks. Depending on the OS on your office machine, you can make it do NAT (Network Address Translation). If it's Win2000, it's called "Internet Connection Sharing". XP also has this feature, but I don't know if they call it the same thing.

With Windows, I'm fairly sure that enabling ICS also enables a DHCP server, so you want your PPC set up for DHCP.

Presuming that you've got the wireless network set up correctly (ad-hoc, same channel, same network SSID), and you set up ICS for your *other* interface ("share this interface" for the hard-wired interface), it should all just work.

Actually you can get your system that you have to do what you want, you need to give your PPC a gateway address, and dns server info. As you are in adhoc mode now my guess is you have not enter this info.

As has been post another way of doing this is Network sharring.
