http://www.flashenabled.com/at/

As you may know, Phillip Torrone and the folks at FlashEnabled have been working hard to provide new and interesting applications for your Pocket PC through their Animated Today software. Now, if you're a fan of Garfield the cat, you can use Animated Today to keep that little critter dancing across your Pocket PC 2002 screen all day long.

There are two separate Garfield themes. Be sure to click on the Preview button to see exactly what the animation looks like.

I know we've talked about this a lot already, but I STILL think the Animated Today application is one of the coolest ways I have to show off my Pocket PC!

What kind of batt/CPU drain will this have?

The drain really depends on the Animated Theme you are running. You may notice a slight drain for various Animated Themes, however, from my experience nothing that would cause you to *really* notice it.

The best thing to do is find an Animated Theme you enjoy and try it. We have over 100 on our site now which you can search by popularity, date, etc. Enjoy! 8)

the battery drain is pretty much exactly the same as if your leave the screen on. obviously if the screen if off, it doesn't consume juice or cycles.

if you're really concerned about cpu cycles, you can press and hold the screen and stop the animation at any time. this has never been a problem, so i won't worry about it.

i don't ask much from anyone, but help support getting rich branded content on the pocket pc and get an animated theme if you can. getting content like this on the pocket pc will encourage other GREAT brands and perhaps even help pump some revenue opps for people.

cheers,

Well, I tried it and while it looks cool, it seems to slow the system down. Pocket Informant was operating very sluggishly - more so than normal - when the Today Screen was one of the active ones. Switched it to a standard background and it resumed to normal.

Pocket Informant is very processor intensive and even on a device with nothing else running, it can be a bit sluggish in Agenda View if you have enough things turned on, so your mileage may vary. Standard Pocket PC apps do not seem affected by this at all. YMMV.
