Hi all!
Was installing the ROM update I downloaded from Audiovox's website, and halfway through it had a message saying that "browsing.xip" could not be installed, but that all other updates would continue.
I clicked OK, and at the end of the update, my today screen, IE, and file explorer are gone! I can't sync my maestro anymore, cuz the cradle doesn't even recognize it cuz some .log can't launch. No file explorer, no storage card access & no desktop access to launch the update over again.
Finally, I hit the battery supply switch to fully reset the machine, and now I can't even set up the Maestro because the images aren't on the screen....
ARGGGGH!
HELP SOMEBODY FAST!!!!

because the images aren't on the screen....
what do you mean the images aren't on the screen?
it also seems weird that a hard reset (battery switch execution) wouldn't set things back to normal, because a hard reset sets the maestro back to factory settings (or at least audiovox says so).
my advice would be to try another hard reset, and if that doesn't work, take it into wherever you bought it and demand (nicely, of course) a new model. things like this aren't supposed to happen.
p.s. - maybe this answers my question about installing the maestro update.

Well, after the update, I assume that half the ROM had the updated OS and the other half (perhaps that was dependant on the browsing.001 file) got left out. As a result, I only have the system bar at the top of the screen. The rest of the today screen is blank. No activesync, or file explorer.
And when I hard reset the machine... Well, you know how you get a prompt to set up your machine by using the stylus to tap on the screen and align it? The task after that is like a training session, where I'm supposed to click and hold on a 9am appointment and cut and paste it onto 11am. The image of the calendar on which I'm supposed to be performing these tasks is unavailable. I've managed to get past that screen, but it's through a whole lot of clicking around on the screen trying to find the "sweet spot"
I guess since half the ROM got updated during my update install, the effects are irreversible by a hard reset. I've heard that the only way I can fix this is to reflash the ROM - for which I need a serial cradle (I don't have one).
Sigh... :(

The hard reset wouldn't fix anything because the ROM is already messed up. The hard reset only clears RAM. Since you can't activesync, you'll have to reflash using a serial connection or putting an PPC 2002 Image on a CF card. The Accelent bios inside your PPC checks everything else before loading the ROM for possible boot images.
This is pretty complex stuff though, so I'd recommend you get it fixed by a professional or at a retail chain.
