View Full Version : Bluetooth Slow Speed ?

Hey all, I just bought an Armadillo BT card for my ipaq (from expansys.com) and a T68i phone. The wireless part is great, but the speed is disappointing. Syncing my phone (SMS or contacts) is very slow. For instance, using winphone I can check the signal and battery status of my phone. When I do this using Irda, it gets checked in one second ! When I use Bluetooth it takes me ONE MINUTE AND 8 SECONDS ! I timed it and I was utterly disgusted with the result. Is Bluetooth just that slow ? Do I have crappy drivers ? Is it normal because of the virtual serial port ? Can I tweak this virtual serial port to make BT faster ? Is there something wrong with my armadillo BT card ? So many questions ;-)

Please reply on this, is BT this slow for everyone ?

Btw, doing a normal sync like loading up 20 SMS messages from the phone takes about 20 seconds.

Kind regards

Ivan

Come on guyz, isn't anyone out there who has a bluetooth enabled ipaq (built in or with CF card) , the program winphone and a T68i ? I need to know if there's something wrong with my card, so I can send it back. Can't anyone do the same test and tell me what their speeds are ?

Kind regards

Ivan

I don't have Winphone, but I do know that contacts and SMS between phone and iPAQ is at least as least via BT as it was by IRDA.

does "at least as least' mean 'at leas as fast' ? I don't quite fully understand. Anyway, I've send back the Armadillo card for a refund and I'll be ordering the Socketcom BT card. Thnx anyway

Whoops! It means I wasn't concentrating.

The BT sync is as fast as IRDA, if not faster.

Can't do the same test but have found that BT is slow to handshake etc. Once it is talking, throughput is reasonable...not as fast as WiFi but ok. I suspect driver problems for this slow handshaking. Presently going through similar woes with 1xRTT phone - much slower to handshake than CDPD but throughput reasonable once online. But this slow handshake will be the death of it...PDA users expect instant on.

Yeah, the handshake is pretty slow, but I don't mind that if after the handshake everything would go fast, but like I've said, that armadillo card was slow as hell. I suspect it to be driver issues or something. Funny enough the company that sold me it didn't bother to troubleshoot it, but just offered a refund. So now I have to wait for my refund to arrive and then I'll get the socket one ;) at least that one will fit completely in my CF slot :fadein:

I don't think that most users will put up with this...from watching how our users access stuff, it tends to be for quick lookup of data, rather than for lengthy reading sessions. In these situations, they won't put up with a 25 second delay on connecting.
